Mac’s influence on 2026 Utes

I plagiarized this from Proud Ute on UteHub, but found it interesting.

We all know that Coach Mac changed Utah football when he took over as head coach in 1989. But, he still has a major influence on our coaching staff today, 37 years later.

Morgan Scalley – He was recruited by and played for coach Mac.
Kevin McGiven – Coached under Mac at Weber State.
Colton Swan – Got his coaching start under Mac at Weber State.
Jordon Gross – Was recruited and played for Mac at Utah.
Luther Ellis – Was recruited and played for Mac at Utah.
Inoke Breckterfield – Coached with Mac at Weber.
Derrick Odum – Got his first coaching position with Mac at Utah.
Sharrieff Shah – Was recruited and played for Mac at Utah.

It’s amazing how many of our coaches are people taught by coach Mac.

MAFU !!! Love Ronnie Mac. I had the privilege of having a beer with him at Lumpys

My question is do any of them have sand in their pockets on game days.

Or a schedule of Air Force satellites

The shillelagh could be a nice touch for accessorizing the other coach’s offices.

I just don’t want to see tackle dive left, tackle dive right, pass, and punt being our offense.

Our long suffering program did a 180 when Mac took over. A few years later we had the glorious victory in Provo (first in 2 decades) and knew that things would be different.

Before Mac, 5 or 6 wins constituted a good season. He raised the bar to the point where a losing season was unacceptable.

I remember when he guided the Utes to their first bowl game since 1964. I told my wife we needed to go because there might never be another.

It’s hard to imagine there was a time when it was fantastic for a Ute fan for the team to finish the regular season 6-5 and get an invite to the illustrious Copper Bowl.
