It's game day!

Everybody around me in the stadium was holding their breath every time he did that. Seems to me he should be told never to run except on a critical third down with the game on the line, and even then it should be a last resort. We do give away a weapon with that approach, but that’s better than giving up Cam for multiple games.

I’m happy for the win. It went pretty close to what I hoped, maybe even a bit better. Cam playing the 1st half looked pretty good. I was really happy to see Wilson in the game. While his stats weren’t super, what (2 INTs to 1 TD?), he got to play against competition.

A thought occurred to me during the game when Cam’s stats were shown on the screen. Cam’s a bit of a gunslinger, IMO in the mold of Favre. No I don’t see him as good as Favre, just in the same mold, willing to take chances with throws and trusting his receivers to get it.

The student TV crew did a good job bringing the game to streaming. The ESPN announcers phoning it in were MEH, but the camerawork was great.

You know, maybe ESPN ought to make this open access and let the schools or conferences flat manage it.

That was fun to watch. I hope we can generate a bit more push up front, and run better between the tackles. Andrews had a nice run before losing the ball. Dijon Stanley. Wow. Defenses will have to react to whatever he is doing to avoid getting pantsed. I am excited to see how he looks against real P-4 level DBs.

It seemed to me and the group around me that Cam was sending a clear message that he would be routinely running the ball. I hope that is not the actual plan, but just a message to help keep the defenses more honest.

Maybe I am off, but the offensive line did look great.

You’d have loved the curmudgeon who I’ve sat next to for 20 years now complaining about them the entire game. I swear he comes to the games to be miserable. Last year during one game he said, “I’ve been coming to these games for 35 years and I’ve never liked the play calling.” Maybe I’m simple, but I think our play calling over the last 20 years has resulted in a lot of Ws.

I thought I heard someone complaining about getting into the red zone. Maybe it was sarcasm, but I remember thinking that 4 of our 5 TD plays in the first half were originated outside the red zone.

IMO we’ve had many openers against FCS teams where we didnt look nearly as good as we did last night. I’m taking that as a good sign.
