Interesting breakdown of Cincy and the Utes

Someone send her a bottle of Ketchup. We don’t want to be too uncivilized while she eats her crow.

Turns out the warts weren’t very visible tonight…err, last night now.

And I love having a QB who’s an electrical engineering major.

This season I’ve watched too many Youtube analysis / prediction shows. For 95% of the shows, these people seriously have no idea what they’re talking about, including the “Locked on Utes” guy.

No serious Xs and Os, no in depth knowledge, just a bunch of superficial bullcrap meant to get views.

There are people who can analyze the defense adjustments we made in detail to stop the Bearcats gashing our run D… but that’s their job, it’s completely lost on the junk food crowd floating analysis shows on Youtube.

I had never heard of this until now, and so I looked it up. Looks like it is a “Fansided but Podcasts” thing. Having a fan’s view of the games can be interesting (see: utefans . net), but a daily podcast?

Interestingly, we still ended up with zero sacks last night. But the pressure was intense enough to make Sorsby hear footsteps all night and rush his throws.

Those footsteps are almost as good as a sack.

I have to give credit to Cincy’s offensive line. They did a good job of not allowing a sack. But yes, the pressure certainly did affect the QB.

I think the main adjustment they made was staying in their gaps. On two of the early long runs, Barton left his gap wide open as he took the fake. The most important thing in the defense we run is to maintain your gap.

What really impressed me last night was the coverage by the DB’s. With a couple of exceptions, they were right where they needed to be. I did notice after the long TD at the beginning of the second half that we did not see Snowden again. I wonder if he tweaked something.

Barton has been…not great this year. Seems like he’s frequently either out of position or missing tackles.

His brother is doing well. Just had a pick 6 against the Chargers

The 88 yard TD by Cyrus Allen was a little surprising. Snowden was pretty serious about track in HS, not that he has elite speed… but to be fair by this point in the season, everyone is nursing some kind of injury.

#4 Saunders came in and was outstanding. Maybe Cincy’s OC and Sorsby thought they could go after Snowden’s replacement, but it failed miserably, helped by relentless pressure on Sorsby.

Scooby has consistently improved. Cotton was excellent. Hats off to Shah and his guys.

IMO, Lander is a little too big at LB. 6-6 / 240 or whatever he is - change of direction and acceleration at that size is not as easy as when you’re Hall’s size. But we need his command of the D, his leadership, and we’re stacked pretty well at DE.

As Uteopia and Diehard pointed out, just play your assignment and trust your teammates to hold down theirs.

I bagged on Youtube yappers in general, but considering these guys cover a lot of games, they do an impressive job, starting with player PFF scores, but include scheme analysis.

I listen to David Locke’s daily “locked on jazz” quite a bit around draft time/summer league/start of season and while he has his drawbacks, you can see the concept of “Locked on” succeeding, but I really dont think he did much work to fill out the rest of the lineup…particularly in the big 12.

I wasn’t able to go to the game and watched on TV, but was pretty fascinated to watch that Sorsby was having temper tantrums near the end of the game. Utah 100% got into his head and it was pretty fun to see.

And it is hard to assess what he was really freaking out about, but it left me with the impression that I probably wouldn’t really like that guy as a teammate. (File that for what it is worth, which is basically nothing).

Seems like immaturity. If he’s an upperclassman (can we still use that term about NCAA athletes?) it’s even worse because he should know better. If he’s young he needs some focused coaching.

Seemed like he was really mad about their decision to wave the white flag and punt late in the game. I can definitely see that.

IIRC, they were going to go for it on 4th and about 4, but then had a false start, so opted for the punt instead.
