Hoops vs Cal in the Hunty

You gotta say “Hometime” in that upper Midwest accent for full effect.

Larry K is very similar to Kyle Whittingham in a lot of ways.

Larry is going through a rough patch similar to what Kyle went through in 2012, 2013 and recently in 2017.

Kyle’s records:

2011 4-5 .444
2012 3-6 .333
2013 2-7 .222
2014 5-4 .556
2015 6-3 .667
2016 5-4 .556
2017 3-6 .333
2018 6-3 .667
2019 8-1 .889

5 winning records in 9 seasons.

Larry’s records:

2011 3-15 .200
2012 5-13 .385
2013 9-9 .500
2014 13-5 .722
2015 13-5 .722
2016 11-7 .611
2017 11-7 .611
2018 11-7 .611
2019 7-11 .389

5 winning records in 9 seasons.

I’m not saying we should keep Larry, I’m not saying we should fire Kyle. I’m just saying they both are very similar coaches. They both have a ceiling and a floor, but overall they win slightly more games than they lose. They are both safe, solid coaches.

I agree it’s difficult to make an argument that we benefit from continuity on the basketball coaching staff when so many starters transfer. Larry definitely needs to improve the retention. But the fact that most fans want a statue of Kyle, while wanting to fire Larry is pretty weird, not consistent with results.

how exactly did Utah football go 3-4 last year? We’re there some unofficial scrimmages that most of us weren’t privy too?

Pro tip: when making a point using stats, it might be wise to double check your figures

I counted the games we forfeited as losses.

To be fair, 2020 should not count for any team records, it wasn’t Kyle’s fault that Utah was such a hot spot for Covid. Also not Larry’s fault that his players are obviously behind on conditioning this season.

5 winning records in 9 seasons for both. That’s not giving Larry credit for a .500 season in 2013 that was not a losing season and was a big improvement from the first two seasons.

oh for f_ck sake, just go away
