Hoop Utes 2025 Reg Season

I am glad I was wrong. Didn’t see that coming. I don’t think this Kansas team is a typical national powerhouse, but who cares? It’s Kansas. Big win!

Yeah, Lovering might be the worst free-throw shooter I have ever seen. His days should consist of four things and four things only: eating, sleeping, going to class, and shooting free throws.

Looks like I picked the wrong day to give away my tickets to a Utah game. :flushed:

These guys, this team… they’ll never forget this.

Who knows what tomorrow, brings, savor these moments.

Wow, whodda thunk it. I never would have predicted that win.

I wonder how many programs across america can claim at least one victory over duke, kentucky, ucla, arizona, and kansas over the last decade.

Wish I could have been there but had a family commitment that kept me from attending. Had to wait until this morning to watch it.

A few key stats were going 16-19 from the line from players not named Lovering (to his credit, played well defensively), out rebounding the opponent 42-30, and only 7 turnovers against an aggressive defensive team.

Nice to see Gabe making some of his threes again, the one that broke the team record in the closing minutes putting us up seven was simply huge.

Will be there tomorrow night to see if we can get a weekend sweep over the Sunflower State.

It was clear to anyone watching the game that this was happening, but the stat is impressive–and probably decisive.

Utah owned the boards and created second chances. The Utes finished with a 46-36 edge in rebounding, including a dominant 16-6 advantage in offensive boards.

That helped Utah score some crucial second-chance points and own a 14-9 edge in that category, even though the Utes were outshot 40% to 36.5% from the field.

I was a little surprised that they got 16 offensive rebounds and scored 14 points off them. Shouldn’t you score more than the number of rebounds? Maybe not, if you can’t shoot free throws.

On some trips down the court they would get more than one offensive board. So, if they scored a basket they would have two offensive boards and yet only two points.

After the big win on Saturday, let’s hope the Utes don’t lay an egg today. Kansas St is dangerous.

Tied at the half despite Utah shooting 9 of 30. Also 1-11 on 3s.

Swept the state of Kansas

We are going win. That said, G. Madsen’s shooting is maddening.

Oh, Lovering was 7/12 of FT. Tentram was 77% from the FT line. Worth noting.

It seems, with only a few exceptions, this conference is littered with “homebody teams.” They seem to be great when playing on their home court…just don’t take them on the road.

To my knowledge, today is the first time we have appeared in thee projections (what looks to be a 6 seed in the NIT).

Does an NIT bid buy craig another year? Seems to me it wont matter much until he has at least a league average NIL budget to work with.

A bit off topic, but when did the SEC become a basketball league? Seems I haven’t paid enough attention over the years.

As for Coach Smith, I don’t know. Do boosters want to pony up to buy him out, do more for NIL, and help find the next coach?

I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, three NCAA Tournament appearances in the last 19 years is unacceptable. And it doesn’t look like Smith is going to get Utah there. On the other hand, he doesn’t have a ton to work with and seems to get the most out of what he does have at his disposal.

Agree, Smith is doing decent with what he has (picked last in Big 12 this year and might make a tournament). Next year, though, we need $ for NIL or it will be the same either way - with Smith or a new coach (unless that new coach attracts players).

Ausar (2nd in points, 5th in minutes), Dawes (5, 8), Mike S. (6, 4), Wahlin (7, 2), Little (8, 7) are the only ones back that mean much and that’s not too strong of a core (IF we even keep most of them even with Smith staying; less likely if coaches change).

This year could be a win one in the NIT and be happy, but next year is not really a build from this year.
