There is some speculation about the Utah Hockey Club hosting an outdoor game in the future…I would buy tickets.
This type of event has been mentioned before. Would be a fun game to attend.
Having attended an outdoor NHL game before, I think RES would be an excellent venue for an outdoor game. And I am pretty sure it won’t be nearly as cold as it was for the game I went to in Edmonton.
Ryan Smith and both Taylor Randall and Mark Harlan exchanged X posts about this when the team was announced.
I’m sure it will happen at some point.
Lord knows it gets cold enough. Dress Rehearsal for 2002 opening ceremony was in low 20s… I was there freezing my ■■■ off.
Just heard on the radio that the Winter Classic will be on New Year’s Eve this year at Rice Eccles. I didn’t catch who the opponent will be.
Utah vs Colorado
Colorado avalanche. It’s meant to be specifically a battle of the Rockies up in the mountains etc that kind of themeing.
By the way they did release the logo for it a week or two ago, and it’s one of the best logos for this winter classic game out of all of them. It’s makes use of the hexagon from the state flag, and feels like it sure some of the same kind of brilliant insight that went into the Mammoth logo., and frankly the original Olympic 2002 logo at that.
I just have to wonder if the people involved in designing the 2002 games logo are dead or something, because that monstrosity that they’ve come up with for 2034 has got to change. Not to mention the fact of altering to say Utah come sorry you know it is not the entire State hosting it, and no one had a freaking cow about it back in 2002. I mean for God’s sake look what happened in Italy. And the last time in Italy 20 years ago, you have the host city but some of the venues have to be scattered out. Nothing is going to be in one location. I keep hoping to God will be able to force a change in both the word Utah and in that idiotic font.
