High School championships

If you didn’t watch the Spanish Fork vs Crimson Cliffs football game, you missed something. Crimson Cliffs was down 42-21 with about 5 minutes to go but managed to tie the score with 10 seconds left. Went to 3OT’s. Won’t say the outcome in case someone recorded it.

I have got to catch up with Utah High School football. When I went to Bonneville, there were only 4 divisions 1A through 4A. I guess there are now 5? When did that happen?

Looks like Bonneville is in 4A (which it was when I went there during the late Cretaceous).

And there are a lot more high schools. Again, back during the late Cretaceous, I could basically list out every high school in the state.

There are 6 classifications now.

Speaking of late Cretaceous, I went to South.

There were only four classifications when I graduated in the Middle Mesozoic period. My High School was brand new then.

South, eh? Wow, that’s a blast from the past. My maternal grandmother graduated from South. So did Sam Tausinga, a former Ute who had a famous pick-six against BYU in 1988.

Tausinga with one of the most memorable Ute plays of all time!

What year did Mountain View open? I think I was in high school (Hillcrest) when it opened. Is Hillcrest 6A?

That would be the timeframe. Thanks!

Remember, this was during an era of Utah football where the defense seldom did much of note. That reminds me, I don’t think Utah has had a pick-six yet this season. They’ve had at least one every season since 2004.

Then tomorrow would be a great day to get one :grinning:

Such a generic name. Wasn’t there an East and West too? And are you implying that South does not exist any more?

South closed in 1988.

Why was there never a North?

For whatever reason, the school that was built on the north side of town was called West.

Yeah, Cyprus or Granger should have been West High.
