Greg Swaim is reporting that the Big 12 could be adding Clemson and Florida State

When will they start exploring the addition of Pee Wee football? Will add lots of butts to seats and cultivate future participants and fans. Grooming!

This is exciting! Big 10, schmig 10.

If Notre Dame turned down the B1G, there is no way they will join the B12.

They have been ACCing for some time now, having created conference connections to the other three teams mentioned in @Ma-ake’s post. Not so sure that this rumor doesn’t have legs.

Notre Dame is a different horse when it comes to football and GoR. Their current broadcast exclusivity lets them pick and choose the commercials aired during the game, and some of those commercials are theirs to sell merch.

Notre Dame makes more money per televised game on their network than any conference deal would ever land them. They make more than double selling merch during their games than the G5 teams make from their GoR deals. Yes, they cut a deal to lock in 5 games a season against the ACC so they could have a place for their MBB and non revenue sports to play.

Unless the media PTB force it, they aren’t going anywhere.

As illogical as ND joining the Big-12 sounds, if the ACC takes a huge hit – and in my mind, the only questions are when that blow comes and whether it’s painful or fatal – that will adversely affect ND’s current position, in terms of a place for its non-football teams. The Big-10 has been after ND for decades, some say almost a century, only to be rebuffed at every turn. That begs the question, why, since ND is a geographic and academic natural for the conference.

I don’t know all of the reasons and may be wrong on what follows. However, it’s my understanding that much of the antipathy, which may be more like visceral hatred of the Big-10, stems from moves by the conference to strong-arm ND into joining, back around the 1930s. Unless I’m mistaken (and I could be), schools like Michigan tried to persuade others like USC to refuse to play ND unless it joined the Big-10. ND emerged from that near death experience with a massively deep institutional memory and distrust of the Big-10 and a heightened determination never to let anyone play hard ball like that again (though it hasn’t stopped ND from doing the same at times to other schools).

If this is wrong, I welcome corrections. Whatever the reason, I’m not holding my breath on ND joining the Big-12. However, I think that is more likely than the Big-10.

So it’s this guy we have to really blame for the break-up of the PAC and the fact that we are now stuck in a conference with the Zoobs. I wish Yormark would go back to making his sauce for the Cardassians and stop meddling in college football affairs. (Deep Space Nine reference for you non-Trekkers out there.)

Or, we have him to thank for creating a 20+ team conference for us.

And there was much rejoicing:

I had no idea they even liked hot sauce.

They were pretty mean to the Bajorans.

Here’s a question for the board - if private equity brings a lot of money to the table, in quantities that greatly lessen / eliminate the amount NIL collectives are trying to get fans to pitch in on…

… does that go a ways toward easing the anger felt when we were losing Deivon due to NIL money?

Ie, if the growing financial asks are abated, does it take some of the bad taste out?

I come from the position of wanting Ute fans to keep being Ute fans. If private equity is a ā€œwhite knightā€, that’s similar to the Huntsmans and Eccles writing big checks, right? Maybe?

Having worked in private equity for years…just don’t see PE as white knights. Irrespective of funding sources, I’m a Utes fan. That said, because of the recent evolution of certain collegiate athletics, my interest in it has waned.

Still, I just renewed my season tickets.for wbb and vball.
