I wasn’t here until after the Renaissance. Up until that time I was living in the valley of the winding waters (now known as Idaho)
Back in the day, the fam would visit the relatives in Holladay. That was a trek. It seemed like it would take hours.
Going to Ute football games and sitting on the aluminum bleachers. Tailgating was in the west parking lot. I remember an evening pep rally, and there was a huge announcement about who shot JR Ewing from the TV show Dallas, so people wouldn’t miss the rally. I vaguely recall visiting Fort Douglas back then. Of course I knew it was there.
I remember the trek from Orem to Bountiful to see my aunt and uncle. The hopscotch of freeway and highway made the trip take a lot longer than it wou
D take now - even with today’s traffic.
For me the trip that took longer - even though it was shorter - was going to Keith O’Briens in Sugarhouse. I really hated that store, prolly because I got some shoes there the other kids laughed at.
Because the cool kids didn’t wear Mary Janes.
No Converse Chuck Taylor All Stars?
I’d wear ‘em to church if it was up to me. White tube socks, too!
I really don’t like to talk about that because it’s so tiresome to explain what it was like to be encased in a block of ice, on the top of Kings Peak, for 900 years. Nobody believes me anyway.
That reminds me of Stevens-Brown sporting goods right there on 21st south. It was the place to go for athletic gear. I bought my football cleats there. I recall that it was a pretty expensive store for my nearly-empty teenage pocket.
