Famke Bol of the Netherlands

Look at the final kick of this very slight, Dutch sprinter, Femke Bol, and how amazingly loose and relaxed she is when closing the gap in this race.

She’s fantastic, and has a great sportsmanship.

Of all the footraces I enjoy the 400 meters best. It’s a thing of beauty, especially the beautiful strides of the best runners.

As a slow, plodding runner, I’m always in absolute awe of the gazelle-like stride that world class distance runners can maintain.

That 400 meter track has nice curves.

I can see that. As a former T&F guy (javelin) at the U, I reserve a special space in my heart for T&F.

I threw the discus in high school. I didn’t throw it very far, but I did throw it.

I pole vaulted in Junior High. Not very high, but I pole vaulted.

I jumped over a stick my senior year in HS. Didn’t jump too high (almost my height), but I did jump.

I set a record for tandem 12oz bicep curls. I thinks it was 24 before I blacked out and woke up on a sand bar at little Jamaica.

I love discus. After I injured my elbow in high school and before full recovery, I actually took up discus and became the #2 thrower on the team after one day of practicing. In retrospect, I should have stuck with it. Also high jumped, but only got over 6’3". LOL

The star is for the high jump reference. It is a little understood, very demanding, and fascinating competition.

I threw a few fits in high school.

That’s a very respectful height.

Absolutely. Understanding the techniques and executing the said techniques are so difficult. Watched that Ukrainian girl win the Diamond League – she’s very impressive.

Thanks. I had a 34-35" vertical, but was more of a power, 2-feet jumper. Wasn’t so great jumping off just one foot.

I still remember playing basketball with a bunch of football players (e.g. Luther Ellis, Jamal Anderson, Kevin Dyson) and there was this DB (couldn’t remember his name) who high jumped at the U. He was not tall at all – maybe 5’10"? – but cleared 7’. I can hold my own against him under/near the basket. But, if you give him a runway, then forget it.

I ran the 800m in HS, so I like those mid distance sprints. But I have a soft spot for T&F.
