What a roller coaster… for a lot of folks, us included. (And it’s not over until the ink is dry.)
Still: One of the best days ever just turned into a giant turd of a day. Yormark sucks. (cougarboard.com)

So now we will be part of the Big 16?
Road games don’t sound all that fun:
Ames, Iowa
Waco
Orlando
Cinicinnati
Houston
Lawrence, Kansas
Manhattan, Kansas
Stillwater, Oklahoma
Fort Worth
Lubbock
Morgantown, West Va.
Provo
Boulder
Tempe
Tucson
The only towns that are easy to get to are Provo (I never go there to games) + the other three Pac-12 refugees. Houston and Fort Worth have airports but by air are 2 hours away (Fort Worth) and 2.5 hours away (Houston). Orlando is almost 4 hours. The other cities are a flight + driving time. I might go to a game in Tempe or Tucson. Boulder, too, if Coach Deion assembles a team worth traveling to see.
It hadn’t occurred to me that they were just dying for us to be left out in the cold. Reminds me of the BYU fan who came here hoping that our first Rose Bowl would be canceled due to COVID. Pathetic. Well, here’s to the Utes winning 10 in a row this time around.
I’ve talked myself into seeing a bright side. With competition like that we will be forced to get better.
(Won’t we?)
One of the tragedies of needlessly dynamiting a 108-year-old conference in just a few days is that the Rose Bowl will never be the same. The Rose Parade?
Then there are the PAC-12 employees who will lose their jobs.
And a whole lot of sports tradition now just becomes history.
Ames - Big trouble, which starts with T and that rhymes with P and that stands for Pool
Waco - Best known for a slaughter…ugh
Orlando - It’s in Florida…nuff said
Cincinnati - meh
Houston - It’s in Texas…(see Florida)
Lawrence - I’ve heard it’s even harder to get a drink in Kansas than Utah
Manhattan - (see Lawrence)
Stillwater - I think the name says it all…
Fort Worth - (see Florida)
Lubbock - Not as nice as Fort Worth
Morgantown - even Provo could look down their noses at this place
Provo - Just kidding, this is the worst of the lot
Boulder - the only redeeming venue
Tempe - like hell, only hotter
Tucson - no…just no…
Feel for the employees of the PAC12 network. Sure the leadership of the conference failed miserably getting the network distributed, but I always liked getting up on Sunday morning and watching the rundown of the previous night’s games.
I feel bad for them, too. And any other PAC12 related employees.
That said, I never saw the PAC12 Network. I had DirecTV (emphasis on HAD)
Too bad American management doesn’t have the tradition of standing in front of employees to publicly acknowledge their failures and apologize. I want to see the P12 CEO group and ADs (especially Harlan) do that. A bunch of typical, also-ran executives.
The Pac-12 built that state of the art digital/video studio in downtown San Francisco. Wonder what happens to Yogi Roth, he seems to really like Utah Utes.
I’m a western guy, big mountains, big waves, big wilderness. Flat geography doesn’t do much for me, especially swampy places like Houston and Orlando.
It will be interesting to see if or how many of these mega conferences will eventually suffer from WAC 16 disease.
The biggest question for me for all sports is the effect on recruiting. Probably cant recruit Cali and compete with the new Big 10 schools. I doubt Texas can fill the void. Hope I’m wrong.
I go to The Rose Bowl and Parade every year. Its pageantry and importance won’t end. It may even get better because there will be an opportunity to realign who will appear. Some would also say the Utes being in it was anti-tradition. The greatest Rose Bowl was probably when Texas destroyed SC.
You are 100% on the Pac 12 jobs.
Ames - No good.
Orlando - Make it a WDW trip for the fam but other than that it’s a hell hole.
Cincinnati - It’s fine. Their Chili is crap but it’s got a strong German Pub culture and you can double dip a Bengals game.
Houston - This may be shocking. One of the Top 5 food cities in America and a great culture around football.
Lawrence - “I’ve heard it’s even harder to get a drink in Kansas than Utah” This is just wrong. It’s very easy to drink and pretty much the only thing to do along with Knock off KC BBQ.
Manhattan - (see Lawrence) Also see above
Stillwater - I think the name says it all… Nickname is actually Stoolwater for a reason. Fun gameday atmosphere though
Fort Worth - I don’t hate DFW but it’s like a Chamber of Commerce created a Faux Cowboy city
Lubbock - “Not as nice as Fort Worth” I actually like Lubbock more than FW because it’s not as douchy
Morgantown - “even Provo could look down their noses at this place” **Yeah, but Provo doesn’t know how to have a good time like Morgantown or have an ample supply of Moonshine. Let’s also not forget those Appalachia women can be easy on the eyes if you get the ones that leave the holler every once in a while. **
Provo - You guys know better than me.
Boulder - I’m in the minority, I think it’s overrated like In-N-Out Burger.
Tempe - “like hell, only hotter” agree
Tucson - “no…just no…” agree
Since we are in the making lemonade from the lemons. . .
At least I can now drive to one game. Not that I want to go to (l)Ames.
And how did the conference go from SDSU almost resigning from the mtn west and then go crawling back just a month ago? How did a competent conference management let that happen? Just screw up after screw up.
Man, the Aztec’s fortunes have been crushed.
What’s the polar opposite of a compelling argument. Because…yeah.
That escalated quickly. And was uncalled for…
I’ll pick you up at DCA or IAD, and we can road trip to Morgantown!
