Looks like Calhoun ended up at Bama. Cameron Calhoun, Utah, Cornerback

The big money schools simply buying whatever players they want is just the reality for everyone else.

Maybe Elon Musk can buy a team for Trump University (this is a not so funny statement about football for sale not a political statement)

Wait that’s exactly what SMU and Liberty are doing. It’s going to be crazy when some team like old Dominion spends 100m and wins it all.

They will make big money deals with players and then not pay them.

I don’t know what the market is for corners or what Alabama paid to get him, but while I liked some of Calhoun’s game and appreciate his year at Utah, I wasn’t impressed by his speed. In situations where it was a flat sprint with an athletic WR, he was often losing ground, which was a little surprising because he’s he’s pretty light. Good length, definitely has a lot of confidence. I wondered why he bailed on Michigan.

Vaughn got juked on some routes, but he has NFL speed, even if he’s on the thin side. I don’t know the situation is with the new CB from UC Davis. 6-3 / 190, which is good, but kind of light on the stats. Maybe they played quarters?

The Portal is the secondary recruitment market.

I’d even argue that it’s a much more valuable recruitment market because you have a body of work to examine against actual collegiate competition.

Somehow Alabama can’t buy their own players. They’ve already lost dudes to Deion at CU, Lane at OM, Sark got a bunch last season and of course their biggest recruit went to the Buckeyes. The NIL at Alabama is quite small in comparison to some other schools and Utah is too wealthy in comparison to lose out because of cash to Alabama.

Just my 2 cents.

C’mon man, be serious.

It’s already been made public Calhoun got a big payday to enter the portal, and Utah declined to match it so……

Are you saying Alabama has higher donor base than Utah? Maybe you guys are plagued with those donors being Zoobs? I’m not familiar with the donor class dynamics.

Oh, I am not saying Alabama didn’t match his request but I also know they aren’t retaining these crazy 4-5* players demands for payment. The only one they kept was (funny enough) their star cornerback from leaving for Ole Miss. They did lose a WR to Ole Miss. I think there is a cap inside Bama on what they will pay and Calhoun probably fit what they needed at the price they needed.

It is weird Alabama has the 6th highest NIL collective in their Conference: On3's top 15 NIL collectives in college sports - On3

Apparently Diego Pavia is going to make the rules different for JuCo transfers. I don’t hate this ruling:

These playoff games have been very one sided so far. Was 12 teams too many?

Good point. SMU looks awful. Penn St. is going to kill Boise St.

I guess $MU needs more money.

Or maybe winning 11 games in conference isn’t as accomplished as 9 or 10 in another. I know some think I would stump for Bama but South Carolina is the more impressive of the left out down the stretch.

That said, SMU over Bama looks like a joke now.

OU over Bama looked like a joke

Yeah. Nobody says that wasn’t a bad loss. Also, nobody wants to see they went 3-1 in top 25 and had two bad losses. So, better to not play top 25 teams and focus on them 6-6 squads. Alabama needed that Texas schedule.

To be fair this is a rebuilding year with a new coach.

Tennessee? Three of Tennessee’s 10 wins were against UTEP. Chatanooga and Kent State.

Not sure why reply to me. I am not an SEC homer. I think moving to 12 was dumb. 16 or keep it 4.

Tennessee has been suspect on the road. Ohio does have a top 3 talent team in all of college football: 2024 College Football Team Talent Composite

Anyone who thought Tennessee would win on the road against a top 3 talent team needed their head examined.

Their Alabama win was doing a ton of heavy lifting. Same with Texas schedule. Those two didn’t win as many top 25 games as Alabama but Tennessee did pull out that close one at home. I have issues with the expansion. Put every conference champ in and then at larges with zero bye weeks or keep it the 4.
