D-I College football thread, non-Utah edition

I can’t stand BYU, but I do tip my hat to them for the season they are having. I honestly do. However, it’s abundantly clear that the Big 12 is not good at all. Whoever makes the playoffs from this league is going to get destroyed. Then again, at the beginning of the season, I had Utah, Oklahoma State, and Arizona finishing at the top. So who knows.

Southern Cal loses again. My heart soars like a hawk.

USC is 12-12 in their last 24 games. Lincoln Riley living up to the expectations I had for him.

How is OSU 0-6 in the league and UA 1-5 (can’t believe they got it together for us)?! And ASU just became bowl eligible. That new coach isngoing to do well.

Clemson and TAMU also fall to unranked opponents.

That’s a shame.

Damn, U$C knew he’d be bleh at best. Guess they’d rather spend money than be good.

Well, the Aggies moved out of the Bottom 10 this week to the honorable mention. It would be nice if we could somehow earn BYU the coveted #5 spot for next week.

Enjoy

Saw a playoff prediction that has BYU getting a bye and playing the winner of Ohio State vs Alabama. The world is upside down.

Many have BYU as the Big 12 champ (they are the only undefeated in conference right now), which would likely get the #4 seed and the bye. Who they face would likely be a ‘better’ team as a B1G or SEC non-conf champ, making them at most a 5 seed. Most years, the 4 seed will likely no be favored against the 5 seed, potentially the same for the 3 seed vs 6.

Yup. Some believe (although there is a ton of football) Boise would be 11 and Alabama 12 which makes Alabama have to play the Buckeyes. I’ve got my eye on the Rose Bowl since I have Tix every year. Right now it would be Oregon vs the winner of Tennessee at Indiana.

I saw some discussion about both Indiana and Tennessee, in that because neither team has played a tough schedule except for Ohio St (coming up) and Alabama, respectively, that this game would be a pretty good matchup to really find out how good they are.

I actually think there is a good shot Tennessee loses two road games and is out. At Georgia and yes, at Vanderbilt. I think losing to Georgia alone could knock them out.

I think Indiana may lose the matchup in Columbus but win the other 2 games and be in the playoff. It would be amazing to see them run the table and have a shot at Oregon.

…and now the next shoe drops…

The Universities better have the athletic departments set themselves up as stand-alone nonprofits and have them operate independent of the university before hell comes to breakfast.

We may disagree but I think he has a valid lawsuit. I think JuCo shouldn’t count against your 4 years. NJCAA and NAIA players should have an opportunity to transfer into NCAA schools with 4 years. If they want to put an age limit on NCAA players I think we can all agree with that. There are some schools who have players that are 20 & 21 when they start their first year

I agree they should be able to play 4 years at DI. The next question is going to be should they be limited to four years of eligibility, or should there be any sort of eligibility rule at all?

The way these discussions are devolving into paths of employment, things seem to be pointing towards places where it may no longer even make sense for a university to have an intercollegiate athletics department.

If the dude from Miami got 8 years why not JuCo kids? We take old rules really serious but it’s already semi pro. As long as they are working toward an undergrad or masters why not?

If you work on many jobs on campus you don’t have to be a student at all.

Let’s spin sports off. Universities lease the stadiums to business interest.

Stop pretending that this is there for students at this point.

Not gonna lie. Some of the dudes working on the grounds crew in college would have made great LBs.

Glad to see Miami go down. Cant stand that school.

Hmmm. Could be “Blood Saturday” where many underdog teams beat top 15 teams.
