Serious accomplishment.
I remember Weddle in camp as a true freshman, nobody knew who he was, some HS QB that was on nobody’s radar, he might have been 2 stars. They started him at CB and nobody could shake him, he was freakily sticky in coverage…so he started at CB as a true FS. Meyer’s best recruit.
The rest is history, but he had an uncanny ability to make plays. I remember one play, the other team was in the red zone, we were in man coverage, Weddle had his man locked down, but he had a hunch the ball was going to another receiver, so he left his man and stepped in front of the pass, interception.
His whole career was like that, then they played him at safety, he ran the wildcat to perfection, threw a TD or two… I was surprised he didn’t punt and kick, too. Then he went to the NFL, was great, as a seasoned vet played for the Rams and got a ring.
Couldn’t go to somebody more deserving.
He punted a couple of times in 2005, IIRC.
He also sold popcorn at halftime.
Dude was one of the greats, no doubt.
Waddle, Weddle, Weddle!
Used to be you’d get 20 stars almost instantly just for saying his name. Rising Gen doesn’t know how great he was at anything he was asked to do.
I need to send this to my wife’s financial advisor who counts EW as his best friend.
Yeah, I admit that my post was a blatant attempt to get lots of stars. ![]()
During his time at Utah, he played cornerback, strong safety, and free safety. He was also the fourth-leading rusher on the team in 2006 with 203 yards and tied for the team lead with five rushing touchdowns. He played QB in some packages and went 2-4 for 43 yards and a touchdown (against TDS). He also held on field goals and PATs, and he was a good punt returner (with a punt return for a TD called back in the infamous “Harry Potter” game at Wyoming in 2004).
I’d be honored !![]()
Does EW know this?
Most definitely since they played together at Utah and get together fairly often.
