Mind blowing Quack fan logic just now. He’s glad they lost to us already because that means today we don’t have a chance. I asked him why they would want to give up a chance at the CFP and it seemed to stump him. He just went off on how great they were. No humility at all. The stereotypical Oregon fan.

I’d sure like to run into this guy this morning and ask him about why Oregon wanted the Alamo Bowl more than the CFP or the Rose Bowl. I’m sure he has a rationale.

I think the movie should be called, “Whit always folds in big games” with a sub title “The story of a man who always proved wrong the idiot fans who always complain about the stupidest of things”

That should fit nicely on a movie marquee.

I think that “loses big games” monkey is off Kyle’s back forever. It has returned to whatever jungle it came from.

Some Xs and Os:

I liked how Ludwig adjusted between the games, knowing Oregon would load up on trying to take away the TE passing game… so our WRs were targeted early, and came through, stretched out the Duck defense nicely. Vele, Solo, Howard, Dixon, and of course Covey.

I didn’t expect we’d be able to run like we did in the first game, but we kept pushing the run game, and it was there when we needed to chew clock. Thomas was breaking tackles of Noah Sewell in the 2nd half.

Pretty cool to see the Sewell parents & their kids after the game. Great family.

The throw game numbers weren’t gaudy but it was so effective. Oregon showed up with seemingly one focus, stop the run. They wanted Utah to beat them through the air. Mission accomplished.

Unbelievable season, truly. Last night I kept asking myself, who are these guys? Is this a Utah team? Throw game was crisp, WR were involved. Run game initially wasn’t too effective. A complete game from a dominate team. Amazing to watch!

In just 11 seasons, Utah won the conference and cemented its spot in a Rose Bowl. Arizona, which joined the Pac-10 in 1978, has never been. The last time Cal was in a Rose Bowl (1959) was prior to The Beatles being called The Beatles. Oregon State hasn’t been since 1965. Arizona State’s last visit was 1997. UCLA’s? 1999.

There is a new sheriff in town. Don’t mess with him, you’ll get the Devil’s Palm.

I still hold my breath a bit every time the lint team runs on, but they were solid last night.

Morgan Scalley’s parents are at the same hotel with us. Chatted with them at breakfast this morning. They’re like us, in a pleasant state of shock that this group got to this point after the start to the year. Nice folks. They also said they’re pretty sure they’ll get some Rose Bowl tix.

…Alright, coming down from the high just a little bit - one concerning aspect of the game yesterday was the fumble-itis. And I’m not exactly sure what happened but that one fumble in the pile that the refs said was still ours and then didn’t even review it, the only way I think that was possible was if we recovered the ball. But I am not sure we recovered the ball, so we got lucky in that respect - and the fumbles going OOB.Cam’s one pick was a legit pick, the second wasn’t his fault - that was just great line play and a freak catch.So we’ve got to remember to hold onto the ball again, not get the penalty bug, otherwise not much else to complain about in the game. Even our punter was pretty well protected - when we know everyone is going to send the house every time now.

Thomas seemed a bit loose with the ball, allowing it to get away from him. Lucky he didn’t fumble more. He has largely fixed his fumblitis, now isn’t the time to have that problem restart!

trying to slot these last two victories against Oregon into the list of all time Utah football wins. My initial thought is that they’re both in the top 10, with last nights probably in the top 3 (behind the Sugar and Fiesta Bowl). Utah might have 3 of its biggest wins in history in 3 of the last 4 games if it can win on Jan. 1

I worry about the penalties. Luckily they just traded penalties here but that’s not going to win you a bowl game against a disciplined opponent.

Pac 12 was down this season, but no matter how you slice it, Utah slaughtered an Oregon team twice that was ranked number 3 and was positioned for the Final Four, and has been the dominant Pac 12 team for 15 years. I know Washington fans would die for this moment.
