Can the Utes pull an upset?

Surprisingly, the upcoming game against BYU might be the first game of the season that the Utes are not favored in. I know that doesn’t mean anything and that there really is no reason to believe that the Utes will find any answers to the offensive woes. However, I sat through many miserable Ute games against BYU in the 80’s and I will go again. I returned from my LDS mission at the beginning of 1979 and proceeded to witness 9 consecutive losses. I remember a couple where BYU scored in the upper 40’s or 50’s and the Utes in single digits and then came 1988. The Utes were 5-5 and, although the BYU team was not as formidable as in other years, the Utes were significant underdogs. I guess my conclusion is that upsets happen every week. Some, greater than if Utah were to beat BYU. So, to answer my question, why not us, why not now. Go Utes!!

To quote a wise philosopher, “I want to believe!”

So the upcoming game is an X File.

It could get just that weird. Spoiling their season would be very 1988.

I’m going into this game with virtually ZERO expectations, other than general hope for a Ute win. I have no reason to believe that we’ll earn one, but if we do, I’ll look at it as the several-game-awaited TURN, that we all knew was eventually was coming.

And should we get that win in this game, verses the next, or the next, …, it will have no special meaning to me. Just the win that puts the College Football version of the laws of physics back place.

Whenever we get that win, the actual opponent will not have been any factor.

I don’t think so…but this season has been just the perfect level of stupid for it to happen.

I read UTEopia’s post, been quiet, in disbelief and mourning about whatever has been afflicting our team.

Starting to shake it off…
