I completely missed this.
Riley will play a pivotal role as the University of Utah, which joins the Big 12 officially on Aug. 1, prepares to self-produce 50-plus live game broadcasts on ESPN+ as a part of the league’s media deal.
Fascinating.

I like Bill Riley. I think he does a fantastic job as the play by play guy for the university. And I love his new replacement Sean O’Connell on ESPN 700.
My previous experience with ESPN+ was not good. I hope its improved. One thing you could say about the PAC12 was that the broadcasts were first class.
I watch events on ESPN+ quite often (I am a hockey fan) and for those types of events the quality is great. It just comes down to the production value of the entity providing the game.
For instance, I watched a bunch of SUU and UT games on ESPN+ including women’s soccer and such. The production value of those are low, because it is done by the school and you get one camera and a student doing the play-by-play.
I would have to assume that the University will have the funds necessary to produce a game at a much higher production value than SUU or UT can. Example, BYUTV and that level of production value.
My guess is the ESPN + productions will eclipse the value of the main mothership. When the announcers and crew have a vest3d interest, they do a better job. Bill is going to have his hands plenty full with these productions.
He’s up to the task.
