Best restaurants in SLC?

Just noticed there is no mention of Martine… Any news on that location?

(Had never tried it, but heard it’s good - we were actually planning to go to dinner there the night they initially closed as a result of COVID-19.)

IIRC, Martine had a sign in the window saying it was closed for good.

Yeah, just tried and their domain name is no longer active… too bad…

I prefer to eat at the Salt Lake Temple cafeteria.

Excellent question.

With honey butter?

My wife and I love this place:

Looks interesting. Extremely simple menus, should mean that the ingredients and execution should be top notch. If I were them I’d nix the iceberg wedges and go with romaine or butter lettuce, but they didn’t ask me.

Great deviled eggs, and I always get the corner beef.

Good news would have been they closed and were sucked into a black hole

The word is the landlord is being difficult and was even before Covid.

Thankfully Stella and The Pub are still there

I’m not certain who the landlord is in this case, but that building is a disaster!!! I cannot tell you how many times I was in Red Butte, or Starbucks, or some of the other establishments in that complex, when there were water, power, sewer, or other problems.

Not sure if my sources were reliable, but I had heard that part of the reason Red Butte was not returning was related to these sorts of infrastructure issues in that building.

Whatever the reason, I will seriously miss Red Butte. I’ve probably averaged 1 meal a week in that place for more than 30 years.

I’ve never set foot in Chuck-a-Rama in my life. What’s it like?

If you’ve ever been to practically any buffet, that’s what it’s like. Maybe it’s changed, but I don’t know. I haven’t been since little league banquets 30 years ago.

It’s like a buffet, but with very large people.

Pretty much like most other buffets, but with an extended array of Jello Salads.

Had a chance to go to Pago recently. Hadn’t been there in quite some time, and was pretty impressed. I ordered the Bone-In Pork Chop, which came with cheddar grits, stone fruit mostarda, s-h-i-s-h-i-t-o peppers, and charred zucchini. The pork chop and the grits were fabulous. The only thing I didn’t quite understand was the zucchini. That was one of the more indulgent meals I’ve had in the past few months so I’ve been thinking about it a lot the last week or so. I plan on going back again when the timing is right.

Charred veggies have been a trend for at least the last 3 years. People will get bored of it, it will change. Last place where I was a Sous, we used them in a salad. We painted herb oil on them after the charring process. As long as who ever charred the zucchini kept them somewhat crispy they were tasty.

My feeling was that they were no different than something someone might overcook at their home for a Sunday afternoon meal.
