Attack of the Horned Frogs: Utah vs. TCU

I can’t imagine that I’m alone in seeing the Oline as a weakness right now. There are more thoughts that go along the lines of a weak Oline making everything more difficult.

I suppose that we’ll see what happens going forward.

Well, it sure looked like the o-line were playing listlessly.

There were some short options he was looking at. Everyone was covered, and he was about to get squished. If he committed to running from the snap, I think he could have made it, but by the time he realized he was out of options, chucking it deep was probably the best thing to do. It “worked” on the first fourth down. TCU lost themselves ~20 yards by catching the interception. Ooops.

People have been concerned about Bernard’s carries causing wear and tear. I thought he was going to die last night with the blitz pickups. Things could have been a lot worse last night if Bernard didn’t sacrifice himself for a few extra seconds for Wilson on regular basis. There were a few times a linebacker came up the middle and just pasted Bernard instead of really trying to get to Wilson. Ouch. We need a hot-route, and Wilson needs to hit it. I think we ran two screen plays all game, and they worked pretty well. Why not more, in the face of constant pressure. If Bajakian gives Wilson something productive to do in the face of a blitz, we will do much better.

These all sound indicative of Oline issues. It doesn’t help that defenses are going to pressure a new-ish QB. Our defense does that all the time. But shouldn’t the Oline pick most blitzes? Like you said, a hot route should do much to help. Screens to take advantage of extra aggression from defenses?

I’m not a coach, I just play one on the internet. I don’t think the issues are new to the last 3 games, they’ve just come home to roost.
