Athletic Facilities

Something simultatneously amuses and angers me about the monocle and top hat crowd sitting in front of NEZ.

Catering to maybe 2% of game attendees, most of whom can’t name three players on the team, while 98% of the attendees can’t get from their seats to restroom and back in less than 20 minutes definitely illustrates the priorities of Harlen and his new vulture capitalist pals.

Many, many people can’t even afford to go to the games any longer. Now this?

The athletic department continues to be tone deaf regarding the fan base. For some reason they think that we have an unlimited supply of money.

Here’s the dilemma, people want the University to be competitive in athletics. To do this they need to generate additional revenue for facilities and players. This is big time collegiate sports today.

The revenue needed will not be generated from the general fans. They need to chase large scale sources. The University cannot depend on the Eccles and the Huntsmans to be the only source. So as much as we may not like it, this is the price of admission to the club.

The north end zone is traditionally one of the 2 loudest and rowdiest (along with the MUSS) sections of the stadium. Really not appropriate to put a richer highbrow section there.

We should cater somewhat to those with deep pockets (takes $$$$$ to run a program in this era) in the way of amenities but should be somewhere else in the stadium.

I’m not sure how field level seats will work, but my understanding is they may already be sold. Other stadiums have field level boxes (Ohio State) that are completely enclosed. It would take some significant construction to do that at RES.

I don’t like what athletics across the country has become. But blaming administrators at the U for chasing money is ostrich in the sand stuff.

Regular fans don’t generate the revenue needed to compete.

Everything now is experience driven.

Like it or not, if we want competitive teams this is what it takes.
