Now I have completed the 21 novel series. Quite good! Bittersweet to be done. Might just read Patrick O’Brian’s many other tomes.

I just finished re-reading Orwell’s “Animal Farm”. It was eerily (and horrifically) prophetic to modern times.

As a palate cleaners, I did yet another re-read of “Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy”. I have come to the conclusion that this might be my favorite book ever. Definitely in the top three (along with Lord of the Rings and 7 Habits).

This isn’t lately, but my cousin’s husband, Dennis Tafoya, has some good, gritty crime drama novels. One, Dope Thief, has been made into a miniseries that premiers tomorrow on Apple TV+. All of us in the family are pretty excited about that.

I’ve read two of his three novels: Dope Thief, and, Poor Boy’s Game. They’re good stories. In the latter, just as you’re starting to think you see who you like and can save the day, they’re killed off. Dennis sort of smirks when you give him crap about that.

Yes, Napoleon is eerily similar to a current pig who shall go bigly nameless.

I found Animal Farm to be a better and more prescient read for today’s body politic. It was informative in junior high, and now, it’s more like a fever dream

I actually picked it back up because my 16 year old said they read it in her high school lit class.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the kids were still being exposed to it (for now).

Thinking of going back to some classics of the 60’s 70’s: Tom Robbins, Vonnegut, Irving et al…

Paul Simon is one of my personal and musical heros.

His music with Garfunkel singing harmonies, and his music (without Garfunkel) that followed in the early to mid 70’s is some of the best songwriting, singing, and vocal harmonies ever.

He’s had hearing and voice issues in that last many years. Poetic injustice…

The first song of his that I remember, and my personal favorite of all time, is Homeward Bound.

My second favorite, is from his “There Goes Rhymin Simon” album. (I knew a girl… perhaps the one that sort of got away, and this reminds me of her, as it was our favorite tune at the time.)
