America's Pastime

The Barves look unbeatable…that is until they face my Phillies in the playoffs and we shut them down again.

Watched a no hitter with my 15 year old a couple days ago. That was magical. What a great time.

This season is nothing but anguish and tears for me and mine.
This is the latest in the season we’ve been at .500 since 1995. I know there’s a lot of you out there that like to gloat when the Yankees are down, so definitely get it in and enjoy it now. And with as snowed as Steinbrenner seems to be with Cashman and Boone, it doesn’t look like it’s going to end anytime soon.
BTW the Braves look great - but then again, just about anybody looks great against us these days…

As a long suffering White Sox fan, with only one glorious year and a few decent years to celebrate since I started following them in 1972, this news makes me very happy.

What a cluster these two have been since 2005. This team was supposed to at least look competitive this year; this morning they’re 27 games under 0.500.

In a perfect world Jerry Reinsdorf, who’s like 87, would sell the team to someone that cares about the Sox legacy on the South Side, but he won’t because if he does he’d pay hundreds of millions in capital gains taxes. If it’s sold after he croaks, his heirs can sell for no capital gains taxes. Great deal for them; bad deal for us Sox fans.

Random thought of the night:

Wouldn’t it be appropriate if the Braves traded pitcher Spencer Strider to the Rangers?

Come on. There isn’t one nerd here who gets this?

That’s right Longshanks!

Is that a LotR reference? I’m not a nerd, but am a nerd ally and sympathizer.

It’d be better if the Rangers had a catcher named Aragorn.

They do serve Gimli’s at the bar, though.

Go M’s!

I think the Angels have some kind of hospitality agreement with Disneyland, I think they’re getting kickbacks from Mickey.

The kickbacks from Mickey ended when Arte Moreno bought the team and drove them into the ditch.

Baseball broadcast stories can be pretty good, the pace of the game is conducive to storytelling.

Watching a Dodgers game yesterday, the color man Eric Karros referenced the season Kike Hernandez pranked his AAA manager into thinking he couldn’t understand or speak English.

Impressively, this went on for half a season, with Kike summoning an interpreter whenever the manager wanted to talk to him.

Finally, Kike - who speaks perfect English - broke character during a team meeting. Hats off to Kike for pulling this off, and also to the rest of the team AND the interpreter for carrying this prank so long.

One of the best stories from a not so great season of off the field stories from the Dodgers:

Does anyone else remember tucking their transistor radio and earphone under their shirt to sneak a listen to playoff baseball while sitting in school? I know LA does.

I remember parking my brother’s car on the front yard to listen to the World Series while we played basketball on the garage hoop.
