Watching local news tonight and SDSU was playing Stanford in basketball. They showed Alex Smith sitting on the Stanford bench as an honorary captain. He went to Utah and is from San Diego. Just found it interesting that he was an honorary captain for Stanford.
It could be due to his story of overcoming the greatest of trials physically, mentally and emotionally in his life. Being an honorary captain was probably to give the Stanford team perspective and him challenging them into having a great season, and that they can get through any trials life throws at them as a team and player.
Just a hunch.
