Alex jensen

Wahlin was there tonight, seemed pretty engaged. If it makes sense for him to stay at Utah, I think that door is open.

This year’s team plays 2 weeks from tonight in that new tournament. They also got a hearty round of applause from the fans, which was nice.

Favorite AJ memory: The Utes were down 6 (or 8??) at Air Force with under a minute to play. Alex scored 8 or 9 strait points, along with a steal and a few rebounds. The Utes ended up winning.

About the Reids: Roger and his kids were grade-A jerks (especially Roger, man that guy was a piece of work), but if Robbie had transferred to Utah before the 97-98 season, instead of heading to Michigan, I think Utah beats UK in the final. The reason we lost is because Andre was exhausted, he had run out of steam & Jordie McTavish wasn’t up to the task of spelling Andre. I think Robbie Reid would have been good enough to give Andre enough of a break, that the Utes would have held on to the lead.

Okay, you can all shoot me now for thinking a Reid should have transferred to Utah. Haha.

That game still stings.

Well, nobody told me until today!!

I completely agree. Robbie almost came to the U. He was prick at BYU, but he wasn’t a bad player. He would have been a much-better backup to Andre.

Interesting that Burgess is now at byu, the guy who was the target of Reid’s wrath.

“You just let down 10 million Mormons”

Somewhat interesting side note. I had the opportunity to talk to Pete Newell at that time (long story) and his remark was “yeah, that guy said something really stupid”. Newell coached Cal to 2 Final Fours and 1 NCAA championship.

Heard they’ve improved to USDA Grade AA pricks.

I spotted all the current players except the madsen twins, lohner (who is off getting ready for football stuff), craigs son, and Mongolian Mike. I dont know what that says, if anything, but interesting nonetheless.

Was hoping for more people but it is what it is on St. Patricks day, monday at 6 pm.

His post about it indicated that he looked forward to getting to know the new coach and playing in the postseason with the team.
Alex said he had a chance to talk with the players yesterday.

Agree. Robbie could play. I remember him, as a freshmen, shooting a very deep three at the Hunty with the game on the line and time running out. He had brass balls.

Mrs Ma’ake just showed me an interview of Gobert, who was asked about AJ’s new career path.

Rudy elaborated quite a bit on what he thought of Jensen - very positive, excited for his new direction, is happy for him, said he’ll have to check out some games.

He talked about AJ telling him when he met his wife, their first date, etc. Rudy was just a kid from France, back then. Rudy’s first year was AJ’s first year with the Jazz, he said he felt a family connection with Jensen. Rudy’s first Thanksgiving was at Alex’s house. Etc.

He said most people don’t know how competitive Jensen is, and how much he cares about his players.

If those things weren’t true, there’s exactly zero reason for Gobert to BS the answer. He plays in Minnesota now.

AJ’s first staff hire announced. It’s not someone that has been rumored or that will get the fan base super excited, but at first glance looks like a solid addition to the staff.

When I first saw the announcement, the words of the MUSS came to mind…“Who’s that?”

But the more I read, this is a tremendously serious and positive hire. And perhaps best of all, this is a guy who is going to be in the office making and taking calls on Monday when the portal opens, which is something we desperately need.

Yep, this guy’s experience with the NBA and with coaching in Europe with AJ will help, a lot. The Grizzlies are a respected organization.

With NIL, with young players nearly all having the dream of playing hoops beyond college, having this kind of competence will be huge.

In reality, very few make it to the league, but I’m sure AJ will round out his staff with a variety of personalities and expertise.

I trust Jensen that he will select some good assistants. I do hope he can get Andre, though. Having one other Ute legend would do a lot to create some excitement, I think.

This guy coached Dorrell Wright in high school and Dorrell has already posted about the hire.

Obviously can build relationships.

That’s twice now Dorrell has given Utah really good news - the first time was Tweeting out about Delon tearing up some summer league with NBA players in LA before he came here, and now this.

Having the Wright brothers associated with Utah basketball is never a bad thing.

It seems we sometimes need to be reminded that our view of the basketball world is far more limited than it is to those who live in the high levels of the sport. Think binoculars v the James Webb Space Telescope.

He looks like a great guy to have on the staff.

Yes! Frankly, this hire makes me WAY more excited than a potential Miller hire.

Miller will be fine. I half expect him to be on the staff in one way or another. But if we fill the staff with a bunch of guys like R Chill!? We will be in a VERY good place going forward.

This guy is loaded with experience. I like the way Alex is thinking. It’s so great to see the head coach and (apparently) the Athletic Department leadership being deadly serious about the future.

He is absolutely killing it so far.
