Media are reporting that AJ has officially accepted the offer.
This is the best news this program has had in a long time.
There will be high expectations but Coach Alex Jensen seem poised to have increased $$$upport from those wanting to invest in quality players and assistants.
My humble income doesn’t include being able to do much other than to renew my season tickets, attend the games, and be loud and supportive. Alex and the Utes need lots of Utah fans (including students) to show up on a regular basis and create a great atmosphere in our arena.
I noted during the BYU game in January what a beautiful place the Hunty is when it is packed to the rafters and rocking and we need more of that to help rebuild the program.
I have fond memories as a kid and young man of being at the Hunty in a packed house.
I hope Andre Miller joins him and I wouldn’t mind seeing Josh Eilert, David Evans and Lo Leath stay on board. Cody Fueger, who followed Pope to KU and who was previously with Utah would also be a good addition.
Nice write-up on AJ.
I realize times are changing in the sport, but if Jim Boylen could get Utah back to the NCAA Tournament in his second season, and if Larry K could take Utah to the Sweet 16 three years after going 6-25, then Alex Jensen can turn this thing around. Heck, Steve freakin’ Cleveland had BYU in the NCAA Tournament three years after the program was 1-25. Again, I realize the landscape of college basketball looks a lot different than it did just a few seasons ago, but still, Alex and Utah can do this.
That was 25 years ago……just sayin
I can’t think of a better possible outcome - Andre played in the league for 17 years.
Being a head coach at the G-league level is high level experience, too.
I would think coming back to the hill from Rapid City is a no-brainer, but let’s see. Assistant Head Coach seems like an appropriate title.
Official announcement.
I’m a bit choked up, similar to back in 2004 when Kyle Whittingham chose to stay at Utah and become head coach when he potentially was destined to return to a certain school where he was an all-WAC linebacker.
Yeah, I know. Turnarounds can happen. That’s all I am saying.
I remember Alex’s freshman year, Rick was praising him, he had the green light to shoot, but really struggled, especially from outside.
Seemed like he was wincing after every miss.
The green light stayed green, and it seemed like Rick might get on him if he passed up an open look. It was interesting to watch.
Then the shots started falling, and he became an all around assassin.
Andre Miller’s initial response.
