AI and the new frontier

My favorite part of this AI debate is people not realizing search engines they use to discover what is AI are…..AI

That and they aren’t answering using a search (screw you google) of the web and reading the pages to answer you. They are providing a patterned response that represents the mean of whatever dataset they were trained in. Usually not current and in many cases filled largely with Reddit and Facebook posts but presented with confidence as “fact”.

It’s “slightly” more complicated but that’s the crux of it and I’m not posting 27 pages here to explain it better :squinting_face_with_tongue:. If you want to know more ask GPT! J/k

Altman says we must “accept bad things will happen” in order to realize the full “benefits” of AI.

How about no, you sociopathic twat.

Sort of reminds me of when Charlie Kirk said that a few deaths were a small price to pay for unfettered second amendment.

I see these comments from these tech bro’s and my mind flashes to the “Definition of Irony” scene in the movie Con Air.

Yes, these Headley LaMarr wannabes are simply that stupid.

Seen today:

One thing I find endlessly funny about the rise of AI is that it has revealed that there is a large number of people who believe that the reason they wrote essays at school or university is their teachers were desperately waiting for them to provide a definite answer to “Lear: what’s up with him?”

Always say please and thank you. They will remember. GPT assured me this was the case.

Some wonky articles for those who want more. One thing people should know is a large amount (but secretly held by each company) of training data for large AIs is pulled directly from social media. So a significant amount of what it knows with a generic prompt is influenced by Facebook, X, etc. you can prompt it to use primary sources etc and not use social media but the vast number of users don’t think to do this.

These are not end all be all studies, just some fun ones I’ve come across for the few who might want to dig into it.

A large part of the reason why AI sucks, tbh.

Fun fact buried in all this. The language you use to train a model impacts its interpretation of the data. Less so in math (mostly universal) but definitely in social and political situations.

Just more stuff to digest as we learn to embrace the Matrix :squinting_face_with_tongue:

So Russian bots are training AI to be Russian bots.

I’m not sure it even requires much training now :squinting_face_with_tongue:. And social media has great algorithms to maximize outrage which feeds on it all so…
