Impressed with the fight in this team.
With all the NIL players at BYU, does anyone know how many members of this squad are actually LDS? I’m just trying to get a read on the “saintliness” of this team.
Saunders?
One may be a Rastafarian. That might explain the short suspension. Heh
I’m just wondering if the NIL era BYU will be able to continue purchasing players and still claim to be a shining example of young LDS athletes.
They blew past that exit just like I blew past the San Ysidro exit southbound just north of Tijuana.
That would be a big fat NO
Outgunned, this team has steadily improved, to be competitive with a team with a payroll well beyond most G-League teams.
Impressed with Alex and his staff, love our guards, great to see Dawes emerge.
Heck of an effort by Utah. It always sucks to lose to BYU in anything, but there’s no shame in falling by 5 to stacked team composed mostly of rented players paid for by mega-millionaire and billionaire donors. Alex can coach, and if he gets better resources and players, Utah could be very good in the future.
This team is going to be the spoiler team in the conference this season.
Alex needs to find a way to get them to play with passion all of the time. Does anyone know know the deal with Jacob Patrick.
I thought this was one of Dawes less impressive games, at least offensively. I’ve been really impressed by him in prior games. He doesn’t shy away from contact and can finish at the rim.
At the beginning, I was hoping that we would foul out a couple of guys, knowing we’d have to be physical against their guys, especially Dybantsa. So I think Dawes did what he was asked tonight.
I’ve been interested to see how Alex develops this team - guys they found in the portal while the first year HC was finishing up coaching his G-League team. (Not ideal.)
They look much better than 6 weeks ago, I didn’t see any players who shied away from the moment. You could see growth and confidence after playing AZ, last night was a game we (conceivably) could have won. Gritty performance.
Last year we had a bunch of experienced guys figuring out how to win in a tougher conference where they were out-matched athletically. Fans got behind them, to some extent. This year we have a blend of experience, and much better athleticism, even if we’re a bit small and new to playing with each other and new to AJ’s program.
The performance last night was worthy of more consistent support by the fans. There will be a drop-off from the rivalry game crowd, sure, but hopefully the fans start to provide better support, a bit like last year.
It’s clear to me AJ can coach. I’ll definitely remember his first team.
I’ve been sick and checked the score but mistakenly hot the Jazz and saw they were down by 30 or so. I said, well the Utes 20 point loss I expected was going to be much worse.
Impressive, from both Alex as well as TB & James:
The level of detail in game plan & coaching is really impressive.
That is Majerus’ influence. Except Alex won’t be a jerk to players.
