I agree, I will be shocked if the Utes make the tournament. No, I have no idea who would be a good replacement for CS.
Seems like itās more likely that Flagg plays for the Jazz that year than the Utes. And thatās not saying anything good about the Jazz.
If heās that good the Jazz will screw it up so he ends up in Denver or L.A.
True. And fair. And I would kill to have Flagg on the Jazz.
I wonder how close Harlan was to pulling the trigger as things were falling apart last spring?
I will say, Iām impressed with how CS has responded with staff hirings and recruiting. Heās approaching both like he cares about what happens.
But I do think this season is his Alamo. Imagine if Harlan thinks he can pull Bryant or Jensen away from the NBA. Maybe he knows that he could have a Jensen/Miller staff next time the position opens. All he has to do is wait for CS to miss the NCAA tourney for the fourth time which is more than enough for a coach to get the hook at this level.
I hate to say it, but I think heās a dead man walking. Thatās why Iām so impressed by CSās last ditch effort to save his program. I really think heās trying. The problem is, heās probably another 2-3 seasons away from the kind of results that will save his job. I think his runway is too short and heās gone next March barring a miracle run.
And if they donāt get Jensen or Millerā& perhaps even if they do w/o a huge deep pocket NIL all the CS recruits leave & the Utes start all over again.
The recruit they really need is Jazz owner Ryan Smithābut he only sees Blue.
Or the next tech wiz kid who is a Utah alum would also save the day.
I know the owner of the Colorado Rockies is a Utah Alum, it sure would be nice if he did the same thing as Smith for the zoobs.
I donāt want him doing to the Utes what heās done to the Rockies.
Charlie Montfort and Alex Smith are co-heads of the Utah NIL Collective.
I did not know that. Thanks for the info.
Unless Utah can find someone willing to put up significant NIL money for MBB, I donāt think it will matter much who the HC is. My guess is that Harlan knows that piece of the puzzle needs to be firmly in place before approaching Jensen or Bryant. If that piece is not in place, there is no reason for me to believe that the replacement for Smith would have any greater success then Smith.

Yes. I think this is true.

or would take the job
Some unusual info on Mike Sharaviamts.
I have a coworker who is from Mongolia, told her we have a new basketball player from there. She was doubtful - āwe Mongolians are not very tallā. (The Mongolian community in SLC is not that big. I think itās like the northern Nevada of Asian countries.)
So⦠I sent some info and videos on Mike, to which she responded very enthusiastically - āI know his dad!ā They are a very tall family!
Moral of the story - itās a small world, boys and girls.
Somewhat related: When I think of Sharaviamts I am reminded of Majerusās response when someone said Ma Jin was the best player in China: āIn the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is kingā.
Majerus had a way with words. Haha.
But are his stats like a Brazilian thong? ![]()
Utes sign 6ā10" center Joul Karram from Nazareth, Israel. Roster now complete for upcoming season. It appears Karram is a raw prospect who will need some time to develop. The same can be said for the last signee Ibi Traore.
Not recruiting but still basketball.
I went to Fanfest and spent a little time talking to Gabe and Mason Madsen. Terrific kids (if I can call them kids). Very personable and willing to chat. After talking to them I have a better feeling about the cohesiveness of the team. Whether or not that translates to wins, given how tough the conference will be, remains to be seen. But I like what I am seeing and will probably get season tix this year.
I showed the Madsens an old pic of myself that I keep in my wallet. They both said, āhey, youāre one of usā.
