I don’t disagree and he has to take an HC job if offered, but who are the “they” you are referring to.
I went to a link on cougar board (the only time I ever go there) and it looked like Burgess to BYU was the chatter there. I looked only at two or three posts, however.
This is a term that started back in the 90s on this board when every year we seemed to have play UK in the tournament and many here began saying just “they” or “them” when referring to UK.
At this point, I would be more than happy for Utah to play Them in the NCAA Tournament. Or anyone.
Another hits the portal. Utah offered this guy out of HS.
The portal is great for Big schools like Utah to cherry-pick some of the smaller schools with top-tier talent that got overlooked. Alabama showed that pulling guys from NDState, Cal State Fulerton and Hofstra helped them become a final-four squad.
BYU will be starting from scratch.
Oh, that’s a shame.
I am definitely not sad about it.
A long winless season in Provo is not a bad thing.
I would love to see byu struggle to find players for next season but I’ll bet most of these guys in the portal will return to byu when the new coach is named, especially if they hire Burgess.
Anyone who remembers the 1996-97 season, that was a beautiful time. Utah was 29-4 and went to the Elite 8. BYU was 1-25 and lost by an average of 20 points a game.
Would Craig Smith want Saunders?
I would think so - good sized, athletic, relentless amount of energy, can score a few ways. Maybe not a primary weapon, doesn’t have the scoring capability of Gabe, but a solid player.
He would be foolish not to, Saunders is a proven player and the Utes need proven players going forward.
I imagine Craig has already reached out to him.
Hope he’s reached out to all three in the portal. All contributed this season and are capable of contributing next season.
I see a bunch of Zoob players are hitting the transfer portal. I think four so far. They’re going to have fun in the Big 12 next year.
Pope almost always started from scratch and so does Utah State. All depends on how well your coach recruits. We assume it means death but that is because we’ve had a hard time recruiting and replacing our roster to the point that we make the tourney.
