Women's Basketball 2025 Offseason thread

Thanks for the notice. I don’t watch out for this sort of thing usually and love that I can come here and find out what is going on.

It certainly will be interesting to see what Petersen does with those last spots.

Kneepkens visiting a few big-time programs.

From the article… South Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas, and UCLA.

That is a very strong list of teams. Oklahoma with Beers, could probably use a shooter to make it a innie-outie combo.

Got a commitment from old friend Lani White! She averaged almost 10 per game at Va. Tech this year.

Interesting.

What happened?

I thought we raised these young women to want to settle down and have a serious relationship?

This all goes back to Gloria Steinem! Bobby Riggs was right!

I always felt her leaving was about Gianna and Kennedy and not getting enough playing time. Now, with that not in place, it is likely better for her.

In thinking who the point guard will be, maybe that is coming with a portal transfer, but at this point, it looks like Wilke, who backed up Vieira last season. If that is the case, then White and Walker fill it out guard from there. Now, who is the back-up at point? Good question! Are one of the freshman good enough to carry a heavier load at point?

Her stats at VT have markedly improved, even at a much higher volume.

I think La Sneed (28th ranked recruit in ESPN, 30 in 247) will have a great chance to earn the starting spot. In fact, it wouldnt surprise me to see a starting lineup of 2 freshman (Sneed and Hjelmsted), 2 juniors (Evans and Ross) and 1 senior (Wilke). All of that could change any day.

Almost forgot about Evans. We’ll see how good she is.

I was disappointed when she left but understood why she went looking for more PT. Happy to have her back.

Yeah, the frontcourt is a spot where I really hope we land a difference maker in the portal.

That’s interesting and I appreciate the perspective very much. If Sneed and Hjelmsted are Big XII starters as freshman, that’s great and that lineup, if Evans is what she think she is, is great. That leaves White as the first off the bench at any of those positions. My gut says that Petersen starts White and Wilke, and the freshman see a lot of time off the bench.

As for bigs, maybe the Latvian can be a nice off the bench freshman as a big.

Kneepkens committed to UCLA.

From what I read (not in a local paper) UCLA didn’t have a lot of offense from the perimeter, and with Lauren Betts and now her sister coming is a Frosh, they were much more inside dependant.

She was also courted by TCU, South Carolina, Texas, and Oklahoma, all big and good WBB schools.

  1. The coach at UCLA is close with Roberts, and is now also in LA. Seems like a good fit for her with people who are close to her in the same area.

  2. UCLA will be a favorite to return to the Final Four

  3. UCLA really needs an outside shooter.

  4. UCLA lost some freshman and a returning player so this shores up their lineup.

We will see out it works out for her.

UCLA actually lost all of its 2024 freshman class to the portal. Its 2025 class is rated #2, I think.

I know money is king.

But my Gen X brain can’t wrap around bailing on your team and going to a rival to get paid.

My brain just doesn’t work that way.
