WBB just signed a couple of 4* players, a 6’ forward shooter and a 6’4" forward center. Peyton looks fluid and seems to have pretty quick feet (based on a video short). And, if Satuala also signs, then that’s 3 top-100 players for the class of 2026. Interesting.
That would be two highly rated classes in a row. Lot’s of time still, so not overly excited yet.
For sure. 4* players sure seem to be easy to come by. I would take a couple of those UVU players from last night’s game. I’m just hopeful these young women – who are still only barely out of high school – are fast learners. Their bodies still need to adjust and physicalities need to improve. Just hope we have a staff that can evaluate them and make the necessary decisions.
Not sure if Utah can finish 8th in the B12 this year. We’ll see how the young players develop. As a collective, Utah has slow feet.
Both Jones and Satuala were standout performers at this elite national Adidas camp. Interesting.
What’s the deal with this player. Seemed she was named Co-Defensive MVP. A player from Utah, with offers from UCLA, BYU, ASU, AZ, and Fla St, but not Utah.
Nation Williams
(’27 | 6’3 W/F | Utah Prospects)
21.0 PPG • 10.0 RPG • 1.3 APG • 1.7 STL • 1.7 BLK • PER 40.6
ESPN #10 | Offers: UCLA, BYU, Arizona State, Arizona, Florida State
Williams was the definition of a two-way force. She anchored the defensive glass, led all players in defensive rebound percentage at 28.5 percent.
She’s not a Utah kid but rather
a Vegas kid. Goes to high school there.
Just plays on an Utah based club team as well.
Utah got Rylee Little from the same club team.
Oh, I see. Thanks. Even considering that, a 6’3" kid that plays great defense and scores 21ppg? I would like to see us in the running for someone like that.
the race to signing day for '27 recruits is a long ways off.
She is kind of monotone, but knows her stuff and gives great insight.
Utah has bad fundamentals. Everyone gets unnecessarily hurried… especially disappointing seeing that from seniors. More acceptable from the young players.
I can see that. Nonetheless, I’ll take knowledge and insights over entertaining talking-heads.
I’m quite curious about Utah coach’s x/o and adjustment capability. He seems like a good man and is really focused on culture and style.
This team has to shoot better if they are going to win. UW was pressing all night on the perimeter and the team didn’t get enough open looks from 3, when they did, not so good.
That said, they drove the lane pretty aggressively but then would miss the layup. Tough game to watch from a shooting side. UW came to play defense for sure.
I was curious how Sneed might match up with Sellers, and it was not a match, but Sneed is a frosh and Sellers has a ton of experience. At some point Petersen has to get someone else to guard her other than Walker and Sneed. This is where we miss last year’s guards. That Stines also did pretty much what she wanted. It didn’t seem our defense realized that she liked to turn left and shoot that extended arm layup. Got burned on that a few times.
As I thought, our bigs down low are not up to snuff and our entry passes were dog doo doo, which is certainly not helping them. I would expect teams to press high and take their chances that the Utes will miss a layup or commit a turnover on an entry pass, or dribbling off their foot.
In the end part of the game, after that UW player shoved Ross to the ground, that face of Ross showed the frustrating game she had. She got called for a couple of charges where the UW player barely got touched but flopped like a fish out of water. She played tough all night.
As I said, the Utes cannot win a game where Wilke and White go a combined 6-22.
Nene Sow spotting today. I was flipping around on ESPN+ today and noticed that Utah State WBB was playing Oregon State in one of those all-the-kids-scream early games.
She started played 25 minutes and had 11 pts and 15 rebounds. She is still as slow as ever and can’t rebound outside her space, but if the ball came to her (15x) then she had it on sheer size alone. Some of those were Oboards and she put them back in.
Wouldn’t help us, but glad to see she has found a spot where she can play.
Played Syracuse decently well, but much like the Washington game, just couldnt hold on to the lead.
In prior years, we have been able to mask our short comings with Pili and/or Kneepkens. Those are gone and our lack of interior size/rebounding and carelessness with the ball really stands out.
Checking in from Mohegan Sun live sitting next to broadcast table so maybe you heard me yelling “block out!!!”
Issues in this game: turnovers, lack of rebounding, and lack of shooting acumen.
Syracuse attempted almost 25 more shots in the game.
There was a portion of the third period where the Utes committed 4 straight turnovers and where Syracuse got 4 straight offensive rebounds in one possession.
Anyway. About to watch Michigan/UConn. You can see my head in the main camera shot. Two seats to the left of the broadcast position.
Edited to add that despite the loss the team never gave up and played hard to the end. Made me proud to be a Ute.
WBB is playing UConn today…hopeful we are able to give them a competitive game and don’t get embarrassed too much.
Ouch…still in the 2nd period, down 15-35 to UConn. Not a big surprise, I suppose.
Make that 19-44 at the half.
Make that a 50 pt loss. Auriemma was still pressing and shooting threes with all starters in until partway through the fourth quarter. What an ■■■.
Not much you can do when you play good defense and their two all-americans just casually throw it in the ocean like nothing.
The Utes generally handled the press once the started working together better, but even into the fourth quarter they were throwing what should be an easy pass out of bounds.
I haven’t seen the box score but it to be 60% for UConn and something near 30% for the Utes.
What is the situation with Blanck?
