Was BINGO the name of the dog or the farmer?

Okay, English language nerds and linguists, “There was a farmer had a dog and BINGO was his name-o…”

Based off that sentence who is Bingo?

LOL. Oh man, now I have something new to worry about. Thanks a ton. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I always assumed it was the dog; what proud parent of a soon-to-be farmer, names their child Bingo?

A quick google search and scan of the first few hits indicate there is a longer history of the song in which it is, in fact the dog that is so named.

I realize that is not the answer, or at least the rationale that motivated your question, so I’ll leave the final word to the English language nerds and linguists (although based on the composition skills of the typical poster here, you may have to ask the question elsewhere  )

I will just say yes and leave it at that.
