Utes @ UCLA

Listened to an interview with the UCLA color commentator. He believes the UCLA RB room is stacked 4 deep. The kid who transferred to Utah from Idaho and sat out last year and then transferred to UCLA is a kid who can hit the crease and really run. Believes that UCLA will use the OL that averages 6’5" and 330 lbs to pound away in the run game. Defensively, the DL and DB’s are all new guys but look the part. LB is the strong suit. He described the team as big, strong, athletic and physical. Although I hope the Utes are up to the task, I don’t expect us to be very happy Sunday morning.

I stopped trying to predict results. My only expectation is that we play hard, and hopefully smart.

I do. Hilarious ads for the Chrony Classifieds. My favorite was when he put the trash can on his head, “following the chief’s lead,” in a nod to then SLC Police Chief Bud Willowby actually doing that to go into a bank where a holdup guy claimed there was a bomb.

In these marathon interviews there’s no place to hide. The questions aren’t easy, it’s not a post game presser where you have a few canned answers and it’s a quick wrap.

This kid handles himself really well.

The host was a player on the Fiesta Bowl team, says Alex was really quiet and it was Scalley who was more vocal (which is what I remember as well).

Here’s the real kicker - when we played in the Fiesta Bowl, Devon Dampier was a resident of Phoenix… who was 3 months old.

EDIT: Here’s a quality look at the host Sean O’Connell, who remembers as a walkon LB being thrown to the ground by Chris Kemoeatu…by his throat.

First offensive play guesses. My guess is that they will go with some sort of QB run. What I would love to see is a QB run with a reverse. The defense will be amped and could over pursue. Any other guesses?

Off tackle run.

It’s what we do.

The first play of the season in 2023 was a 75-yard TD pass. Let’s do that again.

Man, that was so much fun. I was late getting into the stadium and had just sat down. And then immediately jumped up to cheer!

So here we are. Time to prepare for “Saturday Midnight Football” live from the Rose Bowl. Time to break out the banner, finish the deck stairs, install the railings, and pass out in front of the TV.

If what we have seen in the other matchups are any indication, we might see a lot of yards by both teams, but not a lot of points scored. Given the prognosticators don’t know what to expect, at a minimum the game may be entertaining…if I can stay awake to watch it.

Time to get to work. GO UTES!!! RUIN THE bRUINS!!!

A solid win and a couple highlight reels from both Offense and Defense: since every east coast network will be asleep - will complete my circle of happiness

In Pasadena with my son preparing for the game. Lots of Ute fans here, all in red and walking everywhere.

There is some beautiful architecture in this area, we did the tour of the Gamble house, a spectacular Arts and Crafts home near the Rose Bowl, and did the walking tour of several similar homes in the general area. The architect for the Gamble home designed all the furniture for the house including a piano box. The cabinet makers built all the matching furniture, including the piano, which was then sent to Cleveland to have the Baldwin piano company install the paino workings (photo below). It is a very unique instrument.

Beautiful neighborhood!

Enjoy the game everyone, Go Utes!

Fantastic drive! But what’s up with the PAT snap? Sure hope that doesn’t come back to haunt the Utes.
