Agreed. This game was a real example by them, but it’s impossible to prove a negative. Salt in the wound though.
That some of the Utah fans last week threw bottles and other debris was embarrassing (even though we were understandably upset it still not right) and I do hope the injury to the BYU director of cheerleading (forget the official title) is not serious. But if BYU fans want to condemn those actions as if all Utah fans are that way, they need to look at the behavior of some of their own supporters (and indeed most fans at this game were not throwing items at the officials.)
Holy crap ! Rose out for season and Glover sitting out rest of season to enter portal !
More to come, I am sure. Whoever is left coaching this team will need to hit the portal hard and rebuild the culture. That’s a big job, and I wonder if Whit, at his age, is up for it. But I seriously doubt he wants to go out like this.
Wait where is the announcement about Glover???
He made a post with the standard AI-like, “I appreciate bleh blah blah but I’m taking my talents blah blah blah” that I saw in FB.
He will be at some G5 school next season as a backup. I had high hopes for Jaylon when he arrived. But he never really developed. He had some moments. But he isn’t fast or shifty, and I never saw him break a tackle. The loss in and of itself isn’t huge. However, it could be the first of many departures. Bugs me that guys quit on the team before the season ends.
Something very wrong is going on with this team. It’s impossible to tell what it is, but it’s there like a giant elephant. In many ways this season is reminding me of Mac’s last season. Heartbreaking losses, WTF losses, strange injuries…it was a mess like this one is now.
I don’t believe for minute doing the rip and rebuild ala Colorado is the answer, but a small group of “someone’s” are definitely making things toxic. Hopefully they figure out how to set it aside and get a win in Boulder this week. Beating Deion never gets old.
This is very much like Mac’s last season in 2002. Good call. Utah was picked to win the MWC that season but finished 5-6. That year, Utah started 2-0 and then lost six in a row. The Utes did end the year with three wins a row (albeit against bad teams: UNLV, Wyoming, and a 5-7 BYU squad). But there also tons of injuries that year and, if I remember, a lot of finger pointing and culture issues. Utah went on quite a run after that season. Let’s hope the same can happen here.
What an elegant statement of the true root problem. (You know what a root cause analysis is. You’ve articulated the root cause.)
My died-in-the-wool zoob brother reports (second-hand. of course) that someone in the Utah section threw a water bottle at a BYU dancer, hitting her on the head and causing her to lose consciousness briefly. This is the kind of rivalry story that lives forever.
All that said, many of our fans are idiots.
But…I ran into an idiot BYU fan on the way out of the stadium, out in the concession area. He evidently had been swearing at a young boy who looked to be about 10-11 years old. The dad was objecting, and the BYU fan (a large guy fully decked out in BYU gear, probably a former player) was towering over the dad, busting his chops. As I walked by I said to the BYU fan, “Stay classy, buddy!” He defiantly responded, “I’m not classy.” I kind of loved that.
Beautiful. Come around here more. We find you very acceptable!
There is video of that and the 18 year old that threw it has been turned in by his father. They were in the suites. Police report is also out. Being charged with assault.
Good. He should be
