Considering the only other options are over a terrible Ok State and a meh UCF in a meaningless end-of-season game, I’d say yes.

fair point. I guess you could argue at the time OK State was a big win for Utah. First conference game, on the road. No Cam Rising. OK State was favored in the game and expected to challenge for the conference. In hindsight clearly it wasn’t a great win, but at the time???

Well, the coaches poll now has us at 22 and our next opponent, BYU, at 14.
ESPN has us at 14 and BYU at 19.
It’s been such a long time since this rivalry game was actually important.

I’m sure some of the other more Ancient Ones on this board remember when Arizona State under Frank Kush was the terror of the WAC. We could never beat them. I thought of that era as I watched the Utes performing last Saturday’s beatdown.

I hated Kush with a passion. When he threw us under the bus on his way to the PAC 10, it was unforgivable. Dude did not have a humble or gracious bone in his body.

We hosted a bunch of ASU fans one of the first times that ASU came to Utah after joining the PAC 12. Coach Kush came by and talked to everyone. I talked with him for a few minutes. He seemed very nice. Perhaps he had mellowed in his older years.

I distinctly remember one of those money games in the 80s when we got annihilated by the devils. Before the Polynesians began changing the game and 300 lb linemen were common, we had a nose tackle named John Paton who was about 6-2 and 219 lbs. He was a tough guy, super strong, super quick, like Mike Kinsella under Wayne Howard.
ASU had a All-America free safety named David Fulcher, who went on to play in the NFL who was 6-2 & 225.
“Their free safety is bigger than our nose tackle!?!?! We’re toast…”
The line of scrimmage moved 10+ yards per play. It was like they had a bull dozer.
