Utah 2026 offseason

My children are spending my future. Maybe I can get Private Equity to invest. I’ll use some to buy life insurance naming them and then party like it’s 1999.

This is really interesting (if accurately reported):

The Big Ten proposed a private capital plan to infuse $2.4 billion into its schools’ athletic departments in a deal with UC Investments, which is tied to the University of California system’s pension fund. In exchange for a 10% stake in what would be called Big Ten Enterprises, each of the conference’s 18 schools would receive about $150 million.

But opposition from Michigan and USC have stalled the proposal.

They have a habit of doing things like this…

They do an online curriculum from Trump University

or from BYU online, which at one time was the online school of choice for athletes from universities throughout the country struggling to stay eligible

IIRC, they made Danny Vranes ineligible.

I don’t remember Vranes being ineligible

I didn’t remember correctly. He was ineligible, but not because of byu.

I don’t remember that at all. I was a newly wed at the time and probably had other things on my mind

I was at that Louisville game referenced in the article. It was great. Bankowski hit a 20 foot jumper at the buzzer to win it. That Louisville team had some great players. Griffith, Derek Smith, the McCray brothers, Wiley Brown, Jerry Eaves… They won the NCAA title that year.

Byrd Ficklin not only is staying, he has agreed to an NIL deal with Utah!

EDIT: @Sweetgrass got to this first. Well done, SG!

Thanks, SG. I don’t know why your earlier post was “hidden” for some reason. I blame BYU fans. This is their second dose of bad news in two days.

One of the earlier hoops games I attended as a Utah student (back when 1000s of students attended the games) and I’ll never forget that shot.. I believe Louisville only lost one other game that season.

I’m hearing rumors that Whittingham is coming back. That Scalley is disappointed but likely to stay. Supposedly a new deal is being inked for which I don’t know the duration, but should result in more money for Whittingham, Scalley and other asst coaches.

File that for what it is worth, but usually a pretty on target source.

Bankowski was a tough SOB. I was friends with Judkins and during the summer I would regularly be invited to play pick-up games with him, Jonas and the team. Going across the lane, Bankowski would almost always get an elbow in your chest. Those were some fun years to be a Ute basketball fan.

My favorite Bankowski moment came on Senior Night. He was given the microphone, and as he closed his very grateful comments, he said to the crowd, “I’m gonna miss youse.”

I stand corrected.
