I recall the U’s President Young at the time Utah joined the conference mentioning that PAC-12 inclusion would greatly help athletics $$$ but the impact it would have in research funding would be more significant.
I was in a meeting with Rich Brown, the Dean of the College of Engineering, a couple of years back and he said the same thing.
