This is not good news for any involved

Hmm, Whit may have an issue to fix.

I hope that ALL of the facts come out before the mobs come to a decision. That said, the allegations are extremely serious.

Oh boy.

Why? He dismissed Perriman and I highly doubt this is an issue within the whole of the football program. Not much else to do but let the process play out.

Didnā€™t see that Perriman was dismissed, my mistake. I, too, doubt that itā€™s program issue, but Perriman will still be associated with the program, and sadly that gives Whit a problem to deal with.

suspended, not dismissed

Thank you. I did see the suspended. I thought perhaps Ironman had seen more recent news with a dismissal.

As Rocker said, these are serious charges. I hope that the young lady is ok, and will be ok in the future.

Agreed. Donā€™t get me wrong. Iā€™ve been on the other side of the falsely accused fence(way different than this situation, but still), so I get the ā€œwait until everything comes outā€ mentality. But unfortunately, it seems like thereā€™s just way too much here for it to be false.

sigh.

Weā€™ve had a good long stretch of not having any issues legally/criminally with the program. It wasnā€™t going to last forever, but this one is horrible.

Double agree, I had someone very close to me that went through a false accusation, again, no sexual assault was alleged, but letā€™s just say that the way the story was spun and the way others reacted to the story, has damaged a very nice young manā€™s life. From all the stories I heard and from what I was able to put together, she was kind of stringing him along for almost a year. He treated her like a queen and for that, he was granted friends with benefits status. After a year, he wanted to know whether their relationship was going anywhere which made her uncomfortable, so dancing on the edge accusations was simply a way for her to put distance between them while making him the ā€˜bad guyā€™ and putting her actions in the relationship beyond question. The kid was devastated and humiliated. Itā€™s now been 2 years and he has yet to date another girl, and I believe itā€™s because he is afraid to get burned like that again.

Not saying this is anything like the case here, not that any of us would know either way. At the end of the day, we need to let the facts play out.

Rockerā€™s right. I donā€™t do criminal law, but my colleagues who do say the best outcome for him is probably pleading down to statutory rape, which still makes him a sex offender and will trail him his whole life. Itā€™ll depend in what the facts are. If he actually did have intercourse with her heā€™s a fool ā€“ especially if he knew she was only 17, but a fool either way. If he did force her and is found guilty heā€™s going away for a while. I pity him because if heā€™s convicted his life will never be the same again.

Rape is rape but as to the statutory rape I thought a 3 year or less age difference was legal for consent if both parties are over 16. For example a 19 year old and a 16 year old or a 20 year old and a 17 year old but not a 20 year old and a 16 year old. Is this not the standard now or did it used to be? Or does this only apply for emancipated minors?

I donā€™t know how one wraps their head around these sorts of situations. Hate to say it, but I have seen this situation play out from both sides of the equation, and it is never possible to fully comprehend what really happened for a long time. Eventually we may know the truth, but it is unlikely.

It is sad to see lives damaged and destroyed like this.

I honestly donā€™t know the law as Iā€™ve never had need to know it. I only bring it up because Perriman is 20 and the alleged victim is 17. I donā€™t know the exact law on it but in my opinion itā€™s not an inappropriate age difference for consensual sex and mutual enjoyment of ā€œdirtyā€ photos and the like. The charges of rape, kidnapping, and other unjustifiable violence(if true) is the only part of this that I find disgusting.

Yeah, makes you sick to your stomach.

It sucks how restricted we are on making arrests on these matters. If it wasnā€™t for so many false accusations these proceedings would be way easier. Falsely accusing somebody of rape may be as damaging to the falsely accused as rape is to to an actual victim. I say may be because I donā€™t have personal experience to compare the 2 situations. With that in mind it makes sense the police would want to have substantial reason to make such an official act as arrest on specific charges.

Maybe heā€™s not in trouble for statutory rape.

What is the Utah Age of Consent?

The Utah Age of Consent is 18 years old . In the United States, the age of consent is the minimum age at which an individual is considered legally old enough to consent to participation in sexual activity. Individuals aged 17 or younger in Utah are not legally able to consent to sexual activity, and such activity may result in prosecution for statutory rape .

Utah statutory rape law is violated when a person has consensual sexual intercourse with an individual under age 18. Close in age exemptions allow teens aged 16 and 17 to consent to partners less than 7 years older, and partners between 7 and 10 years older if they had no reasonable knowledge of the minorā€™s age.

Iā€™m going to leave this to the criminal law specialists now.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out Havenā€™t followed it close but it sounds similar to some cases I have followed and I wonā€™t be surprised if he ends up being cleared or convicted These cases usually hinge on credibility of all involved and any forensic evidence

Saw a tweet that Perriman has been dismissed from the team.

In todayā€™s Trib story Kyle clearly says heā€™s gone and there will be no more comments about him since heā€™s no longer in the program.

Good.
