I’ve been in France this past week and I was able to visit the Notre Dame de Paris for the first time since it re-opened. It’s truly breathtaking- what a beautiful restoration.
One of the most stunning views is the cross-section of the podium and choir, looking up at the roof. The famous Virgin Mary statue - which dates to the 14th century and is a singular symbol of the Cathedral itself - remained untouched in the fire and is seen in the foreground.

We were there just a couple of years before the fire and it was very dark, very dirty, still amazing, but it’s just exceptional, how different it looks fully restored. And honestly, I think it’s just going to be a treasure for the french people. For another 4 or 5 hundred years

Just one more snap to share from today in Paris. I love visiting old cemeteries, for the glimpse they give you into history while reminding you of the beauty and tragedy of humanity.

When I saw Notre Dame in 1978 I came out feeling like I had just been in a Disneyland exhibition. I think it was the lighting more than anything else. I was much more impressed by the Cathedral at Reims.
Did you get any kind of a similar feeling?

Of those I’ve visited, the cathedrals at Reims, Chartres and Rouen all really stick out for me. Each one is a masterpiece in its own right, each with its own uniqueness.
No question the tourism is in hyperdrive at these places - now more than ever.
