Sean Miller

I’m sure they do, but dont these often end up with both sides negotiating a settlement? Even when it’s clear the head coach broke rules.

Looks like the Arizona punishment has come down:

A section devoted to content on the basketball scandal …

• Major news over the weekend from The Athletic, which reported that Arizona’s Notice of Allegations includes five Level One allegations – that’s Kansas territory, folks – and nine charges in all, including a lack of head coach control by Sean Miller and a charge against the swimming program. Arizona has requested the process be moved outside the Committee on Infractions jurisdiction in hopes of receiving what it considers fair treatment, per reporter Seth Davis.

• Yahoo’s Pete Thamel notes that “Arizona has clearly shown that some pesky cheating allegations won’t get in the way of them keeping a very good basketball coach, even if he’s never reached a Final Four. We’ve long passed the point in this where the schools are daring the NCAA to force their hands with their coaches.” Thamel also notes: “Every scam needs a rube, and Arizona president Bobby Robbins and athletic director Dave Heeke have gladly played the role.”

• What’s next for the Wildcats and Miller? The Daily Star published an explanation of the process: “NCAA infractions cases can head several ways after a notice of allegations is sent to a school, and the process is rarely quick.”

• If you’re wondering how bad this could get for the Wildcats, here’s a good breakdown from Sports Illustrated’s Pat Forde: “According to the NCAA penalty matrix, a Level One violation with aggravating circumstances can lead to a postseason ban of two to four years. A standard Level One violation can produce a postseason ban of one to two years.”

• The Arizona Board of Regents met Monday in an executive session … and did nothing.

Well, there’s really nothing for them to do… The next move is for the NCAA to issue the death penalty to Grand Canyon State. :frowning:
