I really ended up thinking so highly of her with the way she battled toward the end of her life. It was something to watch.

That is some very sad news.

Thoughts go out to his family, loved ones and Utah State.

Dang. Actually saw him a couple of years ago.

When I was working in the UK in the 90s, I was surprised at how much American R&B they listen to, in public places like restaurants, etc. A lot more airtime than here.

John Mayall had quite a career. Played with Clapton and John McVie (who later was in Fleetwood Mac) and another guitarist Peter Green, who founded Fleetwood Mac. Wow.

Tip of the hat to John Mayall. A legend, indeed.

Wow! He was young! Legendary player. Part of our entire childhood discovery of music, (well, some of us…) particularly jazz fusion and such.

Saw him at the old Terrace on Main Street in the early to mid seventies, with a spectacular ensemble. One of the best concerts of my life. The side man playing guitar is one of my all time favorites, from the Jazz/Blues fusion era, Freddie Robinson. At a very tender age he had a huge influence in my playing.

I’ll post a recording from that ensemble on the “what I’m listening to thread”.

I was lucky enough to see him twice in concert, a very under the radar influence on the blues and rock scene. He always had an extremely talented line up of musicians in his band! RIP John, and thanks for all of the great music !!!

Nationalism can be horrific.

Vietnam was a war we forgot and repeated in Afghanistan.

“I was just following orders,” the excuse of so many to do so much wrong. I can’t blame nationalism for lack of character, and the willingness to “follow” illegal orders.

It becomes a perfect example of a sunk cost fallacy. At some point it becomes clear that they will lose the outcome but they keep going because they’ve already invested so much into ‘winning’.

I hadn’t thought of it that way.
However, I would think that determining whether or not an order is legal, or even what the word ‘legal’ means during war, might be a difficult task.

Let’s add moral or right to go along with legal. There are some things that are always illegal, and immoral regardless of war or lack thereof: such as rape, and murder.

Absolutes are a fun slope to slip down, but i understand what you are saying.
