Thanks for the information. What is not part of the “normal” defensive player movement is pretty darn subjective. I guess any movement forward prior to the snap is not “normal”, because DL do not normally move forward until the snap. Any movement sideways would also not be normal as most teams don’t shift.

Sometimes refs can be weird, for lack of a better word.
I had a situation where my defensive player hit the trailing back on an option play before the ball that was pitched to him got there. The ref called pass interference. I claimed that it was a lateral and not a pass (plus being behind the line of scrimmage) but the ref didn’t want to discuss it.

Yes it is a point of emphasis this year. In the past we have stemmed all the time shifting side to side trying to get the offense to false start. Now if they shift and the offense moves it will usually be a delay of game on the defense because according to the new rule the defensive line is simulating the snap, even though Utah has been doing it for years. Stupid rule IMO
