I though the former BYU QB was John Beck. There were two Becks?
Yes. They were there at the same time, Jason was a backup to John, and they are not related.
Maybe Jason didn’t want to go to USU with Bronco.
Utah State is expected to hire New Mexico head coach Bronco Mendenhall as its new head coach, multiple people briefed on the situation told The Athletic.
Mendenhall, the former BYUand Virginia coach, went 5-7 in his lone season leading the Lobos.
This season was Mendenhall’s first since stepping away from coaching after the 2021 season. A Utah native, Mendenhall went 99-43 in 11 seasons as BYU’s head coach from 2005 to ’15, then went 36-38 as Virginia’s head coach from 2016 to ’21, highlighted by an Orange Bowl appearance in 2019.
@LAUte I read that article this morning and down in the comments to the article someone said that their two best offensive players, a QB and a WR, were entering the portal, if so, that makes more sense for Bronco to look for something else.
Also, UNM is not in the new PAC12 and Utah St is and staying in the stripped down MWC doesn’t give them any decent access to the 1 bid available in the new playoff, and being in the new PAC-12 does offer that chance.
Along with being able to “come home” and the above, all led to the decision. Or, using Occam’s Razor, maybe he is still just a weirdo vagabond type guy.
The respective coaching journeys of Bronco and Gary Anderson is something to behold.
Apparently Gary Andersen is currently an “analyst” at BYU. Came over with Jay Hill from Weber.
Is GA still at The byu?
you can also get Becks in a six or twelve pack
I prefer the tall-boy.
We talk about an OC, and somehow it turns into a drinking game.
Just wow.
Now maybe I am glad Utah didn’t pursue or get the UNLV OC. The Rebels are terrible tonight.
