Maybe i see social media too much, but i see regression in some of the younger generation and it’s not just political, although the current political environment emboldens it. In my time on campus (many moons ago), i never saw open bigotry, and disrespect of females was not tolerated. These days some seem to wear it as a badge of honor. I would hope that critical thinking would eliminate this, but I’m just not seeing it. I will admit that the younger generation is sure handy with technology. Can i get someone to show me how to use this damned smartphone?
Edit i went to a Lutheran college in the midwest, so i will admit my past experience may have been sheltered.
I think people are just as intelligent and perhaps even more capable of certain aspects of technology. But I’m not sure if people have better attention spans these days. Perhaps there’s just more distractions. But seems like there’s less people who read for pleasure. The curriculum in university had remarkably less reading than I anticipated.
Then again, bookstores seem to be thriving, so that’s great to see.
Rage sells more than sex. That’s why are growing. Back in my day we had “Girls Gone Wild” and “Playboy’s Girls of the (insert conference) issue.” Simple times.
My wife will remind me 10x today I am wrong to balance my one win. No worries.
Just to add to my point. I remember in college being pretty clueless about the outside world. I just went to class and was trying to get a date and some cash for said dates. I was in college when AOL started passing out those floppy discs to get online. That is probably worse of an event than any NIL rule.
Lol. I went to a private college with zero sports. Not Alabama. I am an Alabama fan because my family demanded it since they helped start it (also Alabama A&M and my family also gave the land to start that college in New Haven that is in the FCS playoffs).
I will admit, my private college in the 1990s required very little to get in. I did choose it over Alabama and other SEC schools. I am an SEC hater when it comes to academics. I begrudgingly agreed to an SC visit for my daughter since it had her intended major so I may be nicer to you if she decides to attend.
