It was interesting to hear Newlin say that one of the reasons he picked Utah over Stanford was that at the time only the conference champ was invited to the NCAA tourney and Stanford was not getting there over UCLA.

Those were different times. Interesting how his high school didn’t have a gym! Newlin scored the first basket in Hunty, as well as the first free throw.
