Greatest Athletes

I’m surprised nobody here has mentioned Willie Mays and Jackie Robinson. Both of them were multi-sport players in high school, and Robinson was apparently a better football player than baseball player at UCLA, where he was a four-sport athlete.

And then there’s Josh Gibson, who many people say was the greatest baseball player of all time.

Of course, nobody will ever know who the actual “greatest athlete of all-time” is because, how do you even go about evaluating such a thing? There are many variables. In addition, we only know about the athletes from the last century or so, maybe there was some Olympian from ancient Greece, or a Mongol rider, or a Zulu chief who were exceptionally athletic. We have no way of knowing, other than legends and stories. I guess it’s just fun to speculate.

Tom Brady, great football player, not exceptional athlete.

The Anti-SEC Bias is real. The greatest I’ve seen with my two eyes (although Ohtani may replace him) is this guy:

Maybe you Bronco fans need a reminder. lol. (For the record my Dad would take me to the Colesium anytime John Elway and the Broncos faced Bo or any big game. Next to Alabama games watching an Auburn man absolutely destroy dudes was my fave. Then also seeing him at Angels stadium in the same year was mind blowing.

I think his injury is why people forget about Bo.

Weirdly, being a Dodgers fan my favorite “Athlete” in the MLB was on my grandfather’s fave team:

Only adding Dale because that man is really forgotten.
