I hope your day of remembrance is one of hope.
Peace and God Bless each of you for your service and sacrifice.
I hope your day of remembrance is one of hope.
Peace and God Bless each of you for your service and sacrifice.
BY JOHN MCCRAE
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
Thank you for your service!
My family and I thank you for your service.
Big thanks to all who have served our country, both in war as well as in peace time.
Thanks to everyone who served, and to all those that supported them. Coach Whitt’s comments about wives applies to those on service as well. “There are only two kinds of wives, good ones and exes” your family is as much in the service as you are.
In Yepres, Belgium at the Menin Gate where allied soldiers crossed the bridge to enter WWI, still to this day, the fire department plays Last Post on bugles every night at 8:00. It is an awesome way they say thanks to the British for their help in the war. In town is an amazing Flanders Field Museum. To me it was stunning how many soldiers from Belgium, France, England and German colonies everywhere came to fight. At the beginning of the war there were 10 nations each with a larger military than the US fighting. It is sobering to visit that town.
