Farewell to PAC12 Football

That doesn’t sound bad to me at all.

I think a small minority of Utah fans would agree with you.

Sure doesn’t, but the research grants we’ve gotten through our research-affiliated conf membership have helped immensely. That’s all going away for the time being.

I trust your knowledge on this matter. I find it strange that a fellow research institution would cut ties based on the fact that our sports teams won’t be competing regularly. However, our world is petty.

Yeah I know it doesn’t seem like it should work that way, but it does: research alliance and funding as a result of athletic conf affiliation. Other conferences (e.g., Big10) are like this as well.

its hard to have a serious conversation with anyone who preferred the MWC

It’s also entirely possible they were just messing with you, since you were a well-known troll over there.

no pain, no gain

I suppose that is possible. I think ‘well-known’ is an understatement.
troll = someone who says something you don’t want to hear in a space that you feel shouldn’t have things you don’t want to hear

However, ask yourself, if Utah were playing in D-III, how would it affect your personal fandom?

And, as a non-troll, you might ask others how they would feel to determine the validity of my small, possibly biased sample.

Doesn’t athletic competition by it’s very nature seek the highest level of performance?

If you aren’t competing at the highest level, you are attaining something less. This holds true in athletics, academia, or commerce. If competition is not your cup of tea, why be a fan?

We saw how well the 16 team WAC did. Everyone forgets they did this mega thing nearly 2 decades ago.

collegial pride, I suppose.

Some people like trains, I like the college football season.

So more like a hobby?

More like an obsession.

What’s it like for you?

On to the College Cup!

Is 18 too many for the Big10 or 16 too big for the SEC?

In my view, yes. Unless/until mega conferences have true regional divisions or pods, it’s a terrible experience for fans and (non-football) student athletes.

And those like B12 and American Athletic are even worse off, because they’re not getting anywhere near the revenue as SEC/B1G to at least help with the elevated costs.

The days of schools caring about fans and non-football student-athletes are over.

Couldnt agree more. Exactly why I said collegiate athletics are being destroyed.
