D-I College football thread, non-Utah edition

We have mutual friends. He’s a great guy! I haven’t seen him in years, but used to belong to the fitness club he runs.

Y’all have convinced me. As soon as I see that guy again, I’m going to run up to him, slap him across the face with my riding glove, and challenge him to a duel

Well, hope to see another Ute game this year

I haven’t thought about it for awhile, that Utah is in the same conference as Central Florida, West Virginia, Cincinnati, is so wrong, absurd. Sure there would be less money in the Mountain West conference, but it sure as hell feels more like home. The great break up, whereby football consolidates into two giant conferences, can’t come soon enough.

After our too short stint in the PAC, I would add byu-provo to your list.

Sorry, not sorry.

Honestly, though, I never felt Salt Lake City was culturally a match for LA, Berkley, or Tempe either. Also, you gotta think of it like the NFL now and less like old traditional regional conferences. The only regional conference (footprint wise) is the SEC and that’s sort of a stretch.

MWC over the B12? Heavens no.

The money and, to an extent, quality of football is better in the B12, but I’d take the geography and camaraderie of the MWC over the B12 any day, and I think that is what is being implied here.

Not to be a nooge, but I think we are going to find out the money we are getting ain’t enough money.

Next year the Big 12 (and the Pac-12) will no longer exist.

I grew up in Salt Lake and left in 1982. When I returned in 2018 Salt Lake (not the exurbs) was a very different city. It’s the Austin of Utah, closer to Berkeley than Tempe is. Just look at the SLC council and mayors that have been elected. It has been rated the 5th most gay-friendly city in the USA. It’s no bastion of conservatism.

As for for LA…no place in the USA is a cultural match.

All the more reason we hope to exceed expectations.
Once again…

LA is akin to New Orleans and New York City in that they have a very unique feel but also a love for art, culture, food and have their issues but people still love them.

I get what you are saying about Utah. I do think it is similar to Austin but that also makes it feel very Big XII/SEC to me (Austin and Nashville).

I have found that College football has become BIG MONEY BALL at the FBS level. So now I am turning to HBCU football for that old feeling of college football culture along with IVY League football.

After Yale came in and throttled Cornell at Cornell I expect the undefeated Bears to take it to the Bulldogs at the Yale Bowl in about an hour:

Would the Cougarettes be able to perform that???

I’ve always wanted BYU v LSU in a bowl game for their reaction when those Bayou Bengals fans start to sing to them:

Since I am posting. How about my local HBCU performing at Notre Dame after winning the Grammy this year:
