D-I College football thread, non-Utah edition

Y’all are saying a lot of words.
Hush…the adults are talking, boyaremyarmstired.

The new contract is expected to pay the Big Ten and SEC 29% of the upcoming contract, sources told Dodd, which works out to approximately $22 million per school. The ACC will receive 17% ($13-14 million per school) and the Big 12 will sit around 15% ($12 million per school). The numbers represent a raise across the board as all Power Five institutions receive approximately $5 million per school in the previous contract.

It’s going to be interesting to see where this ends. Maybe more specifically, how does college football end up in a super league, what does it look like, and how many are in it?

It looks like it either ends up as a B1G/SEC partnership where the two conferences act as an NFC/AFC — each one gobbling up the ACC parts and then turning to the west to see if they want any more. I think this is probably the way it goes and we’re very nearly there already.

OR…

A media company in partnership with a few of the bigger brands (tOSU, Michigan, Bama, USC, ND, etc.), leave their conferences behind and start a new league and they hand pick the 25 to 40 schools who are part of it. This is more of a clean break from the NCAA and having to be hamstrung at all by the old ways. This is the way that, for instance, tOSU is able to divorce itself from the likes of Indiana and Rutgers.

I’m not sure how I feel about any of it. I’m also not confident in Utah’s chances of getting in on either scenario.

It’s actually almost too frightening to contemplate, even while it’s happening…

There is a third Scenario where current P4 teams end up all in the same league or two like an NFC/AFC model and then divisions. Then we’re back where we started with one central office and one TV deal. Who knows though. I have heard that actually mentioned more than once as an option. Like 8-10 team divisions.

It’s ironic the word “unconscionable” is used within the context of today’s CFB landscape.

There are an infinite number of scenarios.

But not an infinite number of practical scenarios.

None of this is practical.
